Currently paying a reasonable monthly amount for an '03 530isport (E39) loaded up with the works including comms, tv and nappa leather. No longer warranteed though.

Recently got pay rise equivalent to £100 a month and am mulling over an offer that amounts to paying just £100 more a month, than I currently pay, for a brand new 523i sport (no satnav/bluetooth).

In my position what would you do?

Keep your current (perfectly fine, fast and well equipped) car, and put your raise to a use more constructive than buying a newer car that offers you nothing objectively over your current car other than to get the neighbours curtains twitching for a couple of days.

Keep the current chariot. It is only four years old
and so it presumably has plenty of life left in it.

Certainly another five years, maybe more.

Travelling further up the scale of depreciation,
to take a bigger loss later, just
to get a 523, doesn't sound like a good idea to me.

And you will lose the vital bragging rights in
the pub about how fast your car is ;->

Problem is it only takes a relativley small fly in the reliability ointment on a 4 year old BMW to wish you'd got a new/spend nothing on it warranted motor for only £100 extra a month.

If it was paid for Id say keep it, but if its on a lease/HP chop it in!

Thanks guys. Aeroresh hit the nail on the head about the dilemna. Luv everythng about the current car but worried if anything goes wrong - though not worried enough to fork out for a 4 figure warranty.

The thing is the new 523 is almost as fast as the old 530 and I think almost as good looking (from the front at least).

Donut: If you go to a certain website they are currently doing > £6K off a brand new 523isport (provided you take bmw finance option) but this offer runs out on 29 June. Can't say the name of the website on here but I'm sure you'll be able to find it quite quickly.
