Start up problem got worse

As i said in another thread starting up is a problem when warm. It happend again today this time i had to get some jump leads out, still this would not start it up so i had to bump it off. Managed to get home let it cool down. Now there is nothing just a click on turning the key and a bit of an electrical whining noise. nothing at all from the engine. Any ideas.

I had a similar problem when I first got my car. A new battery sorted it out.

Pretty new battery on the car, well only about 9 months old. I did not get any mail from you.

Could be the starter motor struggling when its hot. By the way YHM

There are four components and some heavy duty wiring involved.
Ign switch, Starter Relay, Starter Motor Solenoid and Starter motor. The latter two can be affected by heat.

The wiring includes earth straps that may have corroded connections. Check and clean all heavy duty connections.

The click you hear may be from the Relay or the Solenoid. The whining noise is probably the starter motor trying to spin. That probably means the switch and relay are OK.

So: If the solenoid is knackered due to carbonised contacts the power reaching the motor would be very poor because of high resistance contacts inside the solenoid.

If the solenoid is OK then the brushes in the Motor may be stuck or worn out.

Both problems can be resolved by removing the starter motor and - A - disassembling the solenoid and cleaning up the internal copper contacts or - B - replacing the motor brushes.

if neither appeals to you, next stop is with an electrical motor factor for a recon unit.
