I cannot get the interior lights to work, have tested the fuse and bulbs etc but have now noticed that at the top right of the relay / fuse board I have a relay missing (precat 4L car).

Looking in the manual it describes it as a 'courtsy light relay', are these available? if so would this be the route cause?? are they supposed to work without this and does it just time the on off once the doors have been opened?

Yes, but it also 'assists' the early heated mirror timer relay somehow it will switch off the mirror heaters if the door is opened???

A search will tell you where to get them.

Me mirrors don't work either!, neither does the ciggie lighter! - three for the price of one fix perhaps? - if only this happened in TVR world ;-)

If the circuits are on different fuses but in similar locations, a stab in the dark would be to test them with a nice earth attached to any one of the devices.

ETA: Fixing things is easy, finding the problem is that hard bit wink

Think the people at mod-wise.co.uk do relays, tel 01793 770730, as do clever Trevor (but I didnt see the part No. listed on the search I did) or any TVR dealer/indi should be able to get hold of one for you I would have thought.

According to my notes; Courtesy light delay relay is a Ford, 85GG 13C718 (yellow) - superceded by 92GG 13C718 (black).

I went to my local ford parts place and they couldn't identify the part number as there are two letters missing off the end!! complete waste of time.

I have also read that the light delay unit draws power even if its not doing anything and drains the battery quicker and a lot of owners remove it for that reason?

I am also informed that the interior lights should still work without the relay as it just provides a delayed earth to the interior lights?? is this all correct??.

If it is I will have to spend another week under the dash.

Mine has AA on the end, sorry I thought that was just the batching..

Since I now have my spare in front of me (* magnifying glass!)
Top:
Ford 68125
8566 13C718 AA
Imp.-Geber Zus,-
Beleuchtung Tur
12V-

Side:
6ED531

Lights should switch on in the fixed pos, but the door switch bits dont function without the delay relay normally IIRC.

Just investigated mine and it is correct that with the relay removed they still turn on at the switch, they just don't come on when the doors opened.
Also I found that when my relay switched off there was still a faint glow from the bulb, so I leave it switched off.
In the process of this I've discovered another light under the glove box that I didn't know was there, I've only had the car 3 yearslaugh

Can confirm the delay relay consuming current, mine has suffered with battery going flat since I bought it 2 years ago. Sorted my wiper problem at weekend, checked on current drain as I needed fuse box out to locate fault, with everything switched off, alarmed and locked- still draining 250Ma, this is enough to drain batterry over a period of time, epecially if you are like me who only use the Griff when its nice.

Must be time of the year or something for these relays failing. I could hear a clicking when plugging my optimate in. Discovered it was the Courtesy light delay one.
Brought the newer one as Spend has quoted above as the old one has been superceded ( can be found on most ford sites if you do a google) and now added to the Alt part list.
Got the new one from fleabay for £3.50

AAAAAHHHHHHHH!!

My mind is going!!

Called David Gerald to obtain the part and he reckons that its the M0346 relay and not the other one quoted that works the delay on the lights. I mentioned that the number came from Steve's book and he reckons that the diagram in the book might be incorrect.

David also reckons that it's a £39 part!

Spend, the ford number you quoted is defo off the relay that works the courtesy lights on your car?? I am off to the scrappies on the weekend to get one so just to make sure. And is it yellow?

Early one is yellow for sure, I believe the later part is black. It looks like a normal relay just <2x long, the pins are a like a std 5 pin relay (all 6.3mm blades).

If anyone is stuck for one of the yellow ones, I expect I have a spare somewhere. I use the alarm to provide the delay function for the lights so it's redundant in my car.
