No Vauxhall we wonder why, perhaps they don't need to be there cos they sell better than the other stuf, shame though as it would have been nice to see the VXR8 and other VXR's

Yes indeed. Seems an obvious opportunity missed somehow.

Vauxhall haven't been at the FOS for two years now. The last time they were there they had the Corvette Z06, Monaro/Astra/VX200-VXRs (yeah, I know the 220 isn't). It was a good stand, and a bit of shame they no longer display. Strange too since GM sponser the event.

Maybe not but I think the VXR8's may have opened quite a few eyes, went on Friday not as much fun as a few years ago, think they need to do a re-think on layout, maybe shift it all to the Goodwood circuit were we could see some more of the cars, they could put all the trade stuff in the middle, revival works well there.

Festival of speed is a hill climb, could only be held at the house in theory.

Completely agree with this. Doesn't explain why no Vauxhall though. My guess would be cost, but with the VXR range now so broad (and in my opinion good) it seems a shame they weren't on display, they'd have made a lot more sense than some of the stuff that actually was.

Does it have to be a hill climb ???? who says ???
Think it would be more fun as a quick sprint round the circuit, mind you it would stuff the Rally boys though, also would be better for the air display.

We weren't there because GM never picked up the option on the stand space, and we can't afford both stand and space costs. GM still sponsor the event and send vehicles over.

Interesting. Where were the vehicles then - did we miss them? I would have loved to have a look at the VXR8.

I worked there for 3 years on a sportscar stand and the rules are very strict over what you can display. Who ever the sponsor is they control what new cars can be shown there so that there is no conflict of interest ie. sales of new cars.

What the rules say are that you can show/display non current models, guess what not a lot of people want to do that in the business. However car clubs can do it, that is non current models, but to put on any kind of a show it costs about 6k as Goodwood reduces the pitch price.

In the early years there was a lot of money to be made there, now it is just a place to be seen and the figures don't stack up.

I remember a few years back when Vauxhall had a great stand, including showing the Cadillac Sixteen concept.

I really, really, REALY wanted to see the Camaro concept. I thought it might be there as GM are intending to sell it in RHD pretty soon.

Still, the Giugiaro Mustang concept nearly made up for it.

Maybe next year?

I doubt the Camaro concept will venture too far (it's in Australia I hear) as although they are saying all future models will be RHD, it didn't explicitly mention the Camaro. I think we'll see it over here after the production model is unveiled (or else Chevrolet!).

Gimmie!

Bob Lutz is on record saying Europe will get 4000 Camaros a year, and the UK will get RHD. Over here he claimed the cars will be put through single vehicle type approval to get around the fact it won't currently meet the pedestrian accident regulations.

Think I read that in Classic American or American Car World.
