OK, now I have this feckin track day bug (which is getting expensive) I suppose I should buy my own helmet.

Mr Touching Cloth pointed me to something like this
for about £40,

but some peeps have suggested a full face such as
for similar money.

Problem is, they're both bike helmets.

Should I go for a proper car helmet (bloody expensive unless anyone knows different?) or do you think something like the above will do for the odd track day/Fighting Torque etc?

I used to race clubman level moto-x and have a very natty helmet for that in yellow/red/pink (i know i know!) with a fighting bulldog on it which Ive decided would make me look a bigger plonker than usual.

So folks, the floor is open for debate smile

Ian/morebeanz? What's your helmet? Price etc?

With a boatrace like yours I would go full face, ideally with as dark a tint as poss.

Del, one day you'll enter your Tiv in a form of motorsport that involves going round corners.

Hmmm Nitro lids - cheap, but for a reason. It's much less of a factor doing track days etc in the Cerb, but personally I wouldn't trust one.

Get a decent open face one. Know anyone in the states? Simpson ones out there are well cheap.

Did Spa in a full face and it's really not that much of a big deal.

Presumably for £40 that thing won't be approved to BS6658 Type A standard so a bit of a waste of money yes?

I'll check the make of mine when I get home, but it was £100 and has the requisite kite marks, etc. I got it from a bike shop because I ride a bike too...

...and it has the coolest flippy sun visor on the planet! hehe

I bought a Suomy Black Hawaiian Lid a couple of years ago. Looks so cool when stashed in the Cerb and even better when I'm out on the ZX10

That won't meet MSA regs. Will be latest EU standard but that isn't accepted.

Nick, get a helmet that meets the minimum requirements, should be a minimum of: BS6658.85 Type A, Type B are NOT accepted, helmets marked A/FR are essentially the same apart from the lining which is Fire Retardant, hense the F/R.

Try here for a few helmets around £100 that meet the MSA requirements: http://www.cars-gb.com/hisl_m.htm
