New gearbox for 3 yr old Altea...
Discussion
Has anyone heard of this happening before?
Last Friday I was driving our Altea when it starting juddering a bit going round corners, I thought I'd better get it checked out so I took it over to the SEAT garage last thing on Friday. I rang the garage after waiting all day today to hear from them only to be told it needs a new gear box and the cost is £1600!!! However, they are waiting to hear from SEAT to see if they will pay a contribution towards it as it's so unusual. The alarm bells are ringing in my head, of course it's unusual, the car is just over 3 years old and just out of warranty AND it was serviced only 6 weeks ago!
There's just over 33,000 on the clock and most of the time my 2 year old son is in the car with me so I'm not exactly hooning around in it.
I'm waiting to hear more from the garage but I'm most unhappy at the minute.

In the end Seat contributed £700 as a 'goodwill' gesture as it was only 1 month past the warranty expiring. The garage gave us the labour for nothing but we still had to pay the cost of the part which was about £700.
It was definitely a faulty part, apparently a bit of the gearbox casing had broken off inside and shredded the moving parts.
Annoying, but I guess that's life.
