I had to whip off the wishbobe yesterday and angle grind the bottom of my old shock absorber off because after 3 hours of beating the bottom bolt, i was ready for war! Anyway, i need a replacement bolt but have to use mail order.

I have measured the bolt and it's diameter at the shank is 12.5mm and the length of the shank is 90mm (total length 100mm), would that make it an 90mm M14?

Cheers

Rob

They are imperial, UNF cant remember what though. Theres two sizes of bolts in the suspension, is it the 3/4 or 11/16 head?

Since i used a 19mm socket, i'm assuming my bolts are metric, come to think of it, all the bolts i have removed so far have been metric, including the Allen heads.

Mine are all metric too. All towns have a 'place' that sells fasteners, have a look in yellow pages and just take your old one in too size it up.

3/4" is same as 19mm ( close enough to use the same spanner). There is definately some imp in there, i renewed my bolts when rebuilding.

I'm 99% sure it's a 4" long 7/16" high-tensile bolt you need.

I got some new ones for mine some time back and, if I can find the invoice, I'll confirm this for you.

Mine were on the suspension bushings but I'm pretty sure they're the same.

I’m thinking this is an age thing, mine being a 2001 is perhaps more metric than imperial, as a ¾” spanner is way too slack for the bolt in question and it’s definitely not a 7/16”. It’s annoying as I’m not in a position to go hunting for a bolt this week, hence why I need to mail order something.

There's definitely both metric and imperial bolts used on the Cerb's (at least there is on mine, a '97 4.2).

As for the 3/4" spanner, the 7/16" measurement is the diameter of the shank of the bolt and not the size of the spanner needed to tighten it.

OK, thanks. My shank diamter (oo eer missus..) is 12.5mm using my trusty micrometer, so obvioulsy not 7/16" which would be ball hair over 11mm biggrin

The Imperial/Metric dilemma is getting confusing - everything I have come across on my car has been metric. However take a look here...

http://www.racetechdirect.co.uk/products-subcatego...

And you'll see that the nuts and bolts are Imperial !!

Who was it that was advertising full suspension nut and bolt kits? I'm gonna be taking off all the arms soon to get them blasted and give them a paint so would be handy to have new replacements for all the bolts the grinder is going to meetsmash

The bolt might actually be a special part to get it made to the tolerences needed for suspension components. My bike failed its MOT on play in the suspension and I went through and extended search to get hold of a close tolerence shank for the damper bolt on my bike with Nitron. The short answer is we couldn't get close tolerence bolts in metric sizes. 12.5mm is 1/2" and from what I remember close tolerence aircraft bolts are imperial. It's possible you might be able to source one that way, either that or you're looking at the normal TVR supply chain - I'd talk to Power and hope you're lucky.

Steve.
