Hi There, Does anyone have any experience of fitting a Pioneer BT8S, 7S or 5S into a 56 plate VXR please. Or can anyone suggest a similar option that will give:-

1) Bluetooth
2) RDS
3) Decent sound (not into full on car mega systems, I am fairly deaf anyway)

Problems I see are:-

1) What cabling / plugs do I need?
2) Enclosure advice (the 8S is only single height
3) Fitting microphone?
4) Will its sound any good and drive the speakers in the car correctly

I am looking at around a £400 budget

Any advice gratefully received!

Cheers!

Monaro speakers are rated at only 2 ohm so figure on replacing those. Best single din kit seems to cost around the 100ukp mark and you need to import it from the US though I picked a cheap and cheerful version up for 15 quid off Ebay so worth shopping about if on a budget. Sony do a cheap single din bluetooth unit now for around 150 quid from Halfords so that might be a way of sticking within budget.

'din' is the size of hole... Standard radio in the Monaro is double din and the one you're on about is a single 'din'...

My Missus is a lot of 'din'.

So - Anyone know how many plugs - connections etc there are behind the existing CD player, or do I need to take it out to find out? I also seem to remember seeing a thread that hinted at a car phone connection lead? Anyone know if this is true? Thanks for your help

The standard radio/cd has 2 connectors on the back, a radio aerial socket and a multipin ISO connector. If the unit you intend to fit has ISO connection (I think Pioneer do) then this should fit straight in, except the 'hot' 12v and the 'accessories' 12v wires have to be swapped on the car side. Also the car does already have a 'phone connection and wiring to radio' - it should be found under the centre console around the gear lever area on LHS.

OK, I'm going to take a stab at this.

There are 3 ISO connectors on the back of the radio/in the loom. Two are the standard power and speaker connections and the third is for the steering wheel controls and the phone interface.

Some pictures I took when working out how to do mine: www.cv-8.com/Blaupunkt

There is also the phone pre-wiring behind the passenger-side transmission tunnel kick-panel as described in this post: www.hsv.org.uk/topic.asp?t=179255

I have recently installed a Kenwood DNX7200 with a Kenwood bluetooth interface as well as PAC-Audio SWI-JACK interface for the steering wheel controls. Prior to that I had a Parrot CK3100 bluetooth unit wired into the phone pre-wiring, so I'm getting pretty good at this.
