Can anyone currently involved in a rebuild help with my problem ?

I have another thread running about my problem with the supply to my coil, but I'm stuck at the moment... what I would really appreciate from anyone who has their P&J to bits at the moment is a trace on a cable to see where it goes.
The cable I want tracking comes off the positive terminal of the coil (white/yellow or just yellow in my case) it runs alongside the negative wire until the negative goes to the nearside of the car towards the dissy and the yellow wire then runs alongside another yellow wire (from the nearside) and into the drivers footwell... my yellow wires are soldered together at the end as if they should be joined to something (another wire or a connection somewhere ?) Thats my Holy Grail... If you've followed me so far, could you tell me where Your wires end ? photos on myphotoalbum if you want to take a look...

I am at a total loss at the moment and would appreciate any advice. I guess you guys with your dash's out are my best hope now... mines an S3 by the way

fingers crossed wink

The positive from the coil should go to +12 volts via:
- The ballast resistor and,
- The starter supply

However TVR did have a habit of putting the ballast resistor coil in various places....... (Wheel arch, tywrapped to chassis, taped to wiring loom etc...)

Ahh, just read the other thread.

The supply to the coil is:

Ign switch - via tacho - via ballast resistor - coil.

The ballast resistor bullet connectors are prone to corrosion (understatement rolleyes )
You end up with the symptoms you describe.
Resistor is usually looks like a length of 5mm blue wire coiled up and has a value around 1,2 ohm.

I'm well confused about your wiring routing. On mine the +ve wire (yellow/white) from the coil is taped up to another wire and go across the engine bay and enters the car in the passengers footwell. The yellow/white one then goes to a connector (with about 5 other wires) and the output wire is white/yellow. These are taped up and go under the dash so I can't follow it any further and I have no desire to pull my dash apart.

The tacho has flyleads fitted to it so they must terminate at some sort of connector to join it to the loom. Have you checked that connector? That is where it should logically go.

good luck
J

Thanks Jed I dont want anyone pulling their dash apart, but if it was already apart for a rebuild maybe someone could take a look...
my wire may as well do what yours is doing as the wire fom the passenger side goes to the drivers side then loops back from the join I have found back to the coil, so it may as well go direct to the coil like yours... maybe thats what it is supposed to do but someone took it across to the drivers side to connect into the alarm circuit which is not there anymore... that would make sense... I think you may be onto something, so thanks for that wink
