I love my M535i, it's a proper old BMW, it's heavy, styled like a brick and makes a great howly noise when you put your foot down.

However, over winter I want to take the old girl off the road for a full respray, fettle and make her as new. I thought I'd also get the engine rebuilt, but then I started thinking about my options, there is a BMW breakers in Nottingham that have had a few E34 M5's in and I've been toying with trying to find an S38 B38 3.8 engine (and related gubbins) to slot under the bonnet.
As the S38 is related to the old M30 I currently have, is it an easy swap? Has anybody dropped one of these into an E28?

The other idea I had was to try and track down an S62 V8 from an E39 M5 as there are loads about and presumably a few have been written off by now. Would it be feasible to drop one of these into an E28?
I expect the biggest hurdle would be the electrics and getting the ECU and wiring plumbed into the E28 electrics. Again, has this been done? Anybody know who would be capable of doing such work?

I quite fancy the idea of a 340 or 400bhp E28. After all, you can never have too much power can you?!

There are a couple of guys over on forum.bmw5.co.uk that will be able to help here - the 3.6 goes in fairly easily, although from memory you'll want some bits from an e28 m5 to facilitate it. But then if the 3.6 goes in, so does the 3.8...
