My first experience of people who own expensive cars was an old manager. He parked in London on the streets and I had to ask if he had sleepless nights. He said that the occasional damage he regarded as another tax on expensive cars. I thought that was quite enlightened.

Of course, if you catch the scumbag, all bets are off and you should be entitled to throw him down a well, followed by some nasty jellyfish.

I'm all for security, but any concealed camera won't stop them. Even a visible one may not be much of a deterrant if you're drunk or have a hoody on or just don't care.

An alarm which senses approach and then bleats a warning is probably a better deterrant for the casual toerag imho.

Probably drunk and/or a student. The worst druken rampage damage I have come across was done by a "friend" from a good background on a night out whilst a student. He decided to go car walking and crushed in the roofs on about a dozen cars.

Of course given that you obviously live on a chav infested council estate it was probably some benefit junky.

Hello it senses motion and records at the same time no motion it stops. I have a driveway motion one as well it sound off if someone comes up the driveway .You would need one with the date and time on the top of the screen as well.It takes a while to set it all up thinking of doing it as a business as well done a few for people already.

SEE YA,

I just spoke to iview cameras and they have quoted me £385 for 2 10m motion day/night cameras, 36m cable, cable from recording device to tv, recording device. There install is £300 p/d. I cant really have wireless as there may be to much interference with my internet and other peoples wireless devices.

Iv just finished doing my house up so didnt want cables on show every where. There is my problem.

Wireless should not be a problem they do not use the same band and it would be faster to fit save you money at £300 p/d .Also if you move it can go with you advice also tell your house insurance people as well I got a discount on mine .

Good luck

judging by your last comment, it's not a surprise you keep 'friends' like that. thanks for your helpful comments - best keep them to yourself next time.
Look I genuinly feel for you and I know what this feels like since I spotted 2 scumbags smashing through the rear window of my car several years ago.

However if you are not prepared for all sorts of comments in return;
1) Do not post on sites like pistonheads
2) Do not assume that only ppl on benefits cause criminal damage at 1am in the morning.

Something a little more helpful now. Ask yourself seriously if there is anyone you have upset in recent months. The reason I say this is that I used to know this guy that had his car smashed up several times. Turns out he had a way of dealing with ppl that was not very friendly, not violent he just really pi$$ed some ppl off. Many of these ppl unfortunately had a good idea where he lived and knew what car he drove so decided to get even that way.

I park my car on the street in London (no driveway/garage). I'm realistic enough to know that its a question of 'when' rather than 'if' some tosser decides to damage my car so I've already budgeted for it.

Sad I know but shows what kinda of a world we live in nowadays....

I'm at a loss as to why the OP must "...obviously live on a chav infested council estate.." ?

I can however see why he was angry when he made his original post. If my car was vandalised overnight, the first type of person to pop into my head would not be a 9-5 city type. Are you annoyed that he chose to use the term "workshy, benefit scrounging in-bred"?

NJH,
You made a comment, I made my response (an understated one at that)! Perhaps it was missing a smiley: here, I should have added this for you: wink ….perhaps your comment (the one I bolded) was missing one as well?

I didn't assume for 1 minute those who damage cars were only people on benefits. that might have been worked out with the words: 'what else would you call someone'

Given that all the for sale signs were pulled down on the surrounding houses (from memory there were 5), I'm guessing it was people having a laugh rather than anything malicious but thanks for the thought.

BTW 'another guy you know' - you keep some interesting company

[/quote]
Agreed, I type to fast and often forget the smileys etc. I think you are right in saying that this sickening attack on your P&J was some persons attempt at having some fun. Makes me sick to think how little respect some ppl have. Makes me happy as well that I made the decision a few years ago to live in a nice village down in the south west. Less money but better quality of life.

BTW thanks for your link on the PCGB forum warning ppl about the guy on the "other" thread.

Some of the ppl I have known over the years is a long and boring story but suffice it to say that none of those are friends of mine (I wouldn't want to have scummy friends like that).

You have my sympathies. The football season is also a bad time for cars....

Possible Solution: If you have time, and have an idea about networking, try this:

1. Buy at least one axis 207W camera (or the megapixel one - note that W is for the wireless model). Do a search for it, or buy it from Misco.
2. Network it with your wireless router (get a good, reliable router).
3. Train it on your drive. Set it up for motion detection. It will also be triggered by audio if you wish it.

These cameras are quite good (day and night) and with SNTP (simple network time protocol - internet time synchronisation) will allow you to have a date and time stamp such that you can use it for evidence if required.

Or pay someone to install it for you.

You can then have:

1. Motion detection, sending you moving or still images at every trigger to a defined email address (or more than one)
2. Day and night monitoring
3. Viewing online from anywhere, as long as you have access to the net - just type in the address.

Warning: I've managed to set one up myself, but it does take time, so if you have the cash, get it installed.

It also comes with a sticker that you can copy and place to let people know you've got good surveillance.

Good luck.
