Are you sure that's not a 1/10 scale Tamiya?

This has appeared on e-bay before, with the same photo,so it did'ent sell then either, you need a full test drive, and have a good look around the rear wheel arches for bodyfiller (when they leave the road it almost always backwards) from experience i reccomend test anything electrical to make sure it does what it says it does, and with motor running, operate heater knob between seats, to make sure heater lever there, operates up and down, if not they can be a nuiscance to repair. expect corrosion around panel joins at rear valance, and in door slam, a re-sparay on this model will cost you £1500, now if i hav'ent scared you off good luck

I saw that one and thought it looked interesting. You never know it could just be a big pile of rust held together by a bit of red paint - have a REALLY good poke around before you even bother thinking about getting a PPI done. If the owner won't let you get a PPI done before handing over your wedge then say thank you very much and walk away !

Also check for rust in B-post (and bad repair)

Open front compartment, remove carpet and spare wheel, check thoroughly inside here. Anything looks bad/ rough, leave.

There will probably be rust just underneath the front headlights. If not, look for respray. they normally rust here. If no rust and no evidence of a respray then its been a good job.

...make sure all numbers tally. Take details of service garages, and ring them for comformation. Phone the last garage to see the car and ask if they saw anything which should have been done, but wasnt.

...There will probably be an oil leak underneath the engine. Argue withnhim over cost, anyway...

...Check all electrics work, that sort of thing..

Good luck! There is an OPC in Tonbridge, and a specialist in Kemnsing near Sevenoaks. Ask to take the car there for an inspection. Spend £100 with them could save your mate £000's !!!!

Hello

I'm Nev's mate, the one who's (hopefully) off to look at the 911. I may have met some of you at Top Gear the other day.

Thanks for the replies to Nev's question. If the car *IS* nice and genuine and reasonable condition, would anybody like to hazard a guess as to a fair price?

Cheers
Andy

so difficult to price without seeing the car,,,silly things like ripped trim cost a relative fortune to put right,,let alone aht mechanical needs it may have,,a clutch is £500 fitted for a start....If it is smoking on start up it may need valve guides overhaul, that is £2k.
stab in the dark, but £8k is ok,,it should not be anywhere near £10k.....If all of the above mentioned needs doing then it is already overpriced at the current e-bay price, which is not even reserve.

Go see the car forget 1st 911 etc...see if you like it,if something puts you off, walk away...If there is no reason to walk away then get it checked out by a specialist.
I wouldn't approach this as an £8k car you nedd £8k + change for potential running repairs.

I bought my 1st 911 in 1994,it was a fantastic car,but then it was the 24th car I actually went to see. There are plenty out there for sale, even more for sale now as there are more lhd cars keeping prices of older non RS models low.

Buy on condition. A good £10k SC is better than a doggy £10k 3.2 Carrera. Don't think that you can get away with a bit of touch up paint if the car is tatty around the edges either. If the wings have bubbled anywhere (check in fuel filler cap too) then it's not a small job to put right and the only real cure is panel replacement - not cheap. So you may have to decide whether you're happy with a cosmetically less than perfect car but which may be fundamentally sound in other areas (nothing wrong with that provided you pay the right price for the car in the firt place - i.e. about the £7k it's at at the moment), or whether you're striving for perfection...

Head studs can snap on SCs too - I'd advise a compression test from a specialist (doesn't have to be an OPC...)dealer...they'd also spot worn valve guides for you too and stikc in on a ramp. Heat exchangers aren't cheap either if they need replac

"Has 200+ Bhp apparently" errr bet it hasn't ! The last of the SC's put out 204 Bhp stock and unless this car has had a very recent engine re-build there's not hope it'll but out that much power. If the miles are genuine and it's never had a top-end rebuild you can guarantee that it's not far off needing one (£2500 job). If you decide to go ahead with a PPI make sure they do a leakdown test which will tell you what state the engine is in and how close you are to re-build territory. This is a very good haggling point, but there is no need to buy a car with an engine that is on it's way out unless the price reflects that.
If this car has any problems I would not want to pay a penny more than the current bid. There are plenty of cars out there so you can afford to be choosy. The rule is always buy the newest car in the best condition that you can afford - buying a 'bargain' unless you are really sure what you are looking at can turn out to be a false economy. If you are prepared to look at left hookers you get a lot more bang for your buck and arguably there are more available. I've got a lhd and don't ever plan to bother with a right hooker such are the savings to be had.
