Remap effects?
Discussion
Hi all,
The Chim's going in for a RR remap at TVR Power next week and was just wondering if anyone had an idea of what changes to expect apart from the low end smoothness and hopefully better shaped torque curve? At the moment the engine is a 450 with ACT induction kit, and superflare trumpets with modified base and an MC1 cam, also I have the ACT sports manifolds with matching decat Y-piece and cherrybomb replacement exhaust. It feels like its running pretty lean at the moment as its still on the standard map and is therefore running out of puff at the top end and in Dom @ Power's words 'it needs a remap'. I've gone for just a RR session and a remap as I will probably switch to Omex, Emerald or similar next year if I have some spare cash, but how much of a difference does just a RR session with a new chip generally make?

what are they charging for the remap? It does seem a bit of a waste if your going to change the ECU next year?
Although with the changes you've got you do need a remap and the running lean could destroy your engine.
the remap will basically get the engine running properly and safely, it should also improve the power and drivability, although your restricted to fuel only on the lucas as it still has the old dissy.
Going to a new ecu on fuel and sparks will give you much more, as lots of power can be released by tweeking the iginition timing.
If your planning on further changes then a programable ecu is the way forward, if you've finished with the mods I'd leave the lucas there...

p.s. I do like the emerald though I had one on the chim and will probably put one on when it goes back together, and the racer now runs a new K6...

Thanks for the replies, yeah it does seem a bit of a waste, but I have some vague method to my madness... First of all, I'm quite poor at the moment thanks to a couple of unexpected bills due to a snap ring coming off and taking 5th gear with it and having to have 3 bolts drilled out of my heads when changing the manifolds - Consequently I can't afford to go for the Emerald or similar system yet. Also before I go down the wasted spark route, I'd like to get some beefier heads and uprate the suspension and brakes and smarten the car up with a respray. This should see me well into next year given that there will inevitably be extra unforseen costs here and there to go with the mods. So whilst I would like to put the Emerald type stuff on hold, I still need to remap the car fairly urgently to ensure my engine doesnt run lean and blow up so I figured a chip or simple remap would be a good idea for the time being... Dom reckons it shouldnt go above £300 anyway even with a new fuel regulator so I thought I might as well do it so I can fully enjoy some summer run outs with the west mids crew (its also my daily driver so it will likely see quite a few miles before next summer anyway).
Braders: I think the only difference in sound with cherry bombs is that the sound it a bit more bassy and angry sounding. I started with cherry bomb replacement system first, then decatted to get more noise so cant really remember how it sounded as standard... Here's how it sounds now though:

Lots of fun
- should be even better when fuelling properly!
