E34 525i auto trans

Just a quick question: I'm looking at getting a 93-95 E34 525i (M50 engine). Do the autos have a 4 or 5 speed box? (or did they come with both?)

.........5 speed I'm pretty sure, think the 4 speed was abandoned along with the 12v versions of the 520i and 525i in 1990. the 24v engines were introduced along with the 5 speed auto i believe

Cheers! I've actually just gone and bought one - '96 83K, BMWSH, and barely a mark on it. Definitely 5 speed.

well done! undoubtedly a good car, they love revs and the sport mode should make it eager enough to shift down. there's not much to rival the sound of these straight sixes in the upper half of the rev counter ... not without buckets more money anyway! you've bought one THE motoring bargains of our times
