Wedge Vs DB9

OK, so I know that a DB9 does 180mph + and a wedge runs out of puff at about 150, but in a drag race to 60, on a decent road, no bends, which would be quicker? I only ask cos a recent experience suggests my 400se (almost standard )might be. However, the Aston blitzed me after 60 and I'm sure would out gun me to 100mph+ every time, ..........but could it be true? is it really wedge 1 Aston 0 when it comes to the most commonly quoted performance measure?

Was in front of one last week just going on to the A6 bypass near Gt Glen ( Leics ), I moved over to the slow lane ( not going that slowly ) he passed and I followed him at 3 figures down to the rounderbout , nice to see a decent car for once .

Well I've raced a DB7 V12 in my old Griff 500 and you are right .. the TVR nearly rammed into him at < 60 but after than and the advantage was with him.

Above 120 and your lose out big time..

Yours gets to 140 fairly quickly (if the speedo is correct).

Autocar tested the DB9 to 60 at 5.8 secs - so the wedge has it! But like anything, it's down to the driver - matching official 0-60 times takes skill and practice. Unless you have launch control (beware M3s!).

And keeping it going fast through the twisties takes just as much skill. I earned my 'Schumacher' nickname at work when I was seen overtaking a Skooby WRX on the outside of a roundabout... In my 1.8 Focus!! But he was a numpty who knew nothing about flowing momentum, and I was kart racing at 10 years old and have been in and out of motorsport for 26 years...

And besides - the wedge will still sound better even as the Aston eventually vanishes into the horizon once passed the ton...

Also the DB9 handicap on the 0-60 is it weight, but once moving should be quite a bit quicker.

I thought the 0-60 was better than 5.8 though. must say its a one good looking car. may be tempted to get one once they come down a bit in price, and just have it for a year. b4 im too old to enjoy one.

Wyn - what the fluff is a lepton???!!

S'funny that guys in Astons etc know what you have and don't want to play (had a DB7 convertible follow me at the weekend and no matter how slow I went, he didn't want a go!), but the chavs in Corsa's with drainpipes for exhausts think they have a chance!! Other than that, the only people who want to play are on two wheels!!

It's a great engine. behaves very differentely to the 400SE I had. The 400 used to come alive after 4k rpm and rev hard up to 6k but this thing just delivers right through the rev range. No matter what gear or revs your at it just hurls you down the road
I've never taken it over 5k rpm, theres just no need.

I am thinking of a Kent 218 cam in mine - should give similar 'across the range' results... But then I have been looking at complete engines on the JE website too...
