HEAT WRAPPING MANIFOLDS

Is there any disadvantages to heat wrapping the manifolds on my wedge? as i am considering doing it to protect the Starter Motor from the heat transfer from them.

They rot PDQ. Mine lasted about 18 months and were held together by the bandage, the rot was so bad.

I wouldn't. I've tried it and for some reason it seems to promote corrosion of the pipes (I'm referring to mild not stainless). I've fabricated an ally heat shield to protect the starter and a loose fitting flexible wrap around just that part of the manifold closest to the starter. The manifold almost touches the starter on my car, and these mods. will hopefully increase it's lifespan.

I would. I bought heat wrap to do my 200 but heard so many negatives including moving the heat further down the pipes to underneath your ar5e, a'la hogroast & in some cases distorting the manifold.

as per other posts , only wrap stainless headders or the mild one rot out in a year or so
this only really affects cars used in the wet obviously
ceramic coating is a better bet for mild headders,i've used kermachrome a few times and it works well - cuts the heat down by about 20%
heat shield seems to be the best plan

I'd just get a heat blanket for the starter. About 30 quid from Burton/Raldes etc.

Going to knock a heat shield up, i think it is the way forward.
