On my way to Wales today, had to stop for petrol(Esso station just outside of Stratton near Swindon on the A417). But the sign at the pumps said "all headgear must be removed" so off with the helmet. Got to the til and asked if they would make a muslim woman take off their headgear (burka or whatever it is called).

The answer I got, in a very sarcastic tone was "its their choice, if they want petrol they have to remove it."

So much for religous tolerance, or is it just major paranoia of getting robbed! In either case I shal avoid that petrol station from now on.

I've seen it quite a few tmes in Essex and London. It's no different from banks and you can't blame them if they get robbed a lot.

Don't have a problem with it and if I had a petrol station I'd do the same.

Me too, too much hassle to remove every time, would definitely go elswhere unless absolutely dry, my local Tesco has a pay-at-the-pump using credit card system which is very convenient, even makes me buy supermarket fuel on occasion.

I dont mind taking it off when going in to the shop, but on the forecourt there's no where clean to put your helmet so i always leave it on, and will not use a station if they have an issue with that.
