V8 stalling help please
Discussion
Hello peeps
Well after looking for a Wedge I defected to the S series stable when i found a V8S, I just had to have it.
However i seemed to have inherited a problem with the tick over. On the way home the car ran great, when i came of the motorway and slowed at junctions and lights the car would not tick over and the revs fell. This was the story until i got home, turned of the engine to open garage and started her up again, all was well, tick over back and OK.
Thought this forum would be full of V8 wizards so any help and advise as to what to try would be greatly received.
many Thanks
Pete

Seriously though, rule number 1 is: check the water temperature sensor. This is the usual thing, and is very easy to test.
I have "installed" a backup sensor which has been used a couple of times and has always proved the original sensor to be 100% OK. It seems the coolant temperature sensor gets a lot of bad press, is it just folk law or is there some truth to it? I find it hard to understand why a thermistor should be so unreliable. It's on the inlet manifold at the left hand front end, next to the thermotime switch.

They do fail, but the main reason to check this early on is a) it's an easy test and b) it's a cheap fix.adam quantrill said:

Someday we should do a fault finding flowchart for the old V8....
Beginning of flowchart:Someday we should do a fault finding flowchart for the old V8....
Flapper - check/replace coolant temperature sensor
Hotwire - check/clean stepper, if not ok see first flapper activity....
Think that ignition related stuff comes next very quickly.
In the mean time we find that pistonheads could use:
1. Spell checker (handy for us foreigners ;-)
2. Flowcharter?

I was talking to a bunch of Dutch guys who were on a radiography course on Monday; they were switching quite easily between English and Dutch.
One of their guys took a swig from his drink bottle only to discover that some comedian had tried to superglue the lid closed. Instead he got superglue on his lips, fingers, clothes... he was ranting away in Dutch. One of the other guys interpreted it for me as 'He is very p155ed off'.
I asked him what the Dutch for 'p155ed off' would be and he said there is no exact equivalent but he came out with some other phrase that I forget... Dutch always sounds to me like 'hoder goder boder schmoder'
But I have met some great Dutch guys on my travels, they are always up for a party!
