Tick tock Gallardo?
Discussion
Weird, very weird.
My car was making a tick tock sound every second or so from the transmission tunnel. Could physically feel a vibration thru the tunnel, handbrake and gearlever. It's loud enough to be obvious.
Symptom exists at idle in neutral, and I think under power too, although hard to tell. Any ideas?

Not to alarm you, but I had a very similar sound when my clutch decided to give up!My car was making a tick tock sound every second or so from the transmission tunnel. Could physically feel a vibration thru the tunnel, handbrake and gearlever. It's loud enough to be obvious.

If I had my hand on the gear knob I could feel it ticking and tocking as regular as a clock!
Not sure I'd describe it as a vibration - it is a repeating "click" that can be heard when at rest and felt through the transmission tunnel. Frequency as Beaver said about 1-2 hertz.
Still, this thread has prompted me to ask Lambo B'ham when it goes in for some other work soon.
Kind regards
Steve

I don't think they can be related - as posted earlier, this tick has been present in my car from new, and its now done 15,000 miles and the clutch is less than 40% worn.Kind regards
Steve
Good luck either way mate.....

Not saying it is....just saying I had a "similar" sound.....
Perhaps not, but I think the implied possibility of a connection in your post was clear...I was just putting forward evidence that such a possible link was not my experience, to avoid Beaver getting too concerned.Anyhow, happy to be corrected.

If it's what I think it is, it's some pump which is part of the aircon switching on/off/on/off/onMy car was making a tick tock sound every second or so from the transmission tunnel. Could physically feel a vibration thru the tunnel, handbrake and gearlever. It's loud enough to be obvious.

Happens on every Gallardo I've been in - some more noticable than others
Very "cleverly" the Italians put it right under the hand brake
as Traxx says and to put you all out of your misery........ its the air con. switch it off and the noise goes!
its a known fault and there is no fix so I'm afraid you have to live with it. later models(not sure what MY as mine is an 04) have it sorted by rerouting the valve that is opening/pulsing that sits in the transmission tunnel.
If you can deal with the temp without AC you will be able to enjoy the fantastic sound of the V10 to its full.

As Doug and Paul say, it's the aircon. Some cars are more affected than others. Appartently, it's a supply pipe mounted to the inside of the transmission tunnel, that 'pulses' giving a ticking noise.its a known fault and there is no fix so I'm afraid you have to live with it. later models(not sure what MY as mine is an 04) have it sorted by rerouting the valve that is opening/pulsing that sits in the transmission tunnel.

There isn't anything you can do about, though I've heard of a couple of attempts to isolate it that haven't worked.
I just live with it and take it as a characteristic of the car. A heartbeat, if you will.
