This is meant most sincerely!

Why would a buyer pay an extra £2k for your warranty when he/she could easily get a Porsche one for £1k on a car like this?

911 (997 model) Carrera 2 S (3.8) Tiptronic S. 2005 54-registration...13,900 recorded miles.

Retail price £57,995 Bug price £55,995

I hope you've got your gloves on.

I reckon the retail price includes a service, anything that needs doing etc.

Still seems steep.

I'll be buying my next car at the Bug Price from Henry but doing 111 pointer and OPC warranty.

readit I'm guessing it is because Henry is not just offering a warranty for the additional cost:

The Retail or Bold price

At the retail price we send the car away to a good specialists, ask them to service the car and look for faults that need correcting. We then correct those faults and stand by the car for 3 months or 3,000 miles ( which ever comes first), to make sure nothing was missed in the service. This standing by the car doesn`t just cover things breaking, it also covers wear and tear items as well - but sadly not petrol. The only things we don`t cover are stereos and alarms / aftermarket security products. We can put extended warranties on the cars for up to 4 years with the claim limit being the value of the car (not just the usual £500 or £1,000). Click for Warranty info

It may come as a shock but there are quite a few car dealers who are...... shall we say a little shy about spending on money on a car before it leaves their showroom. After all, less money spent on the car means more money in the pocket of that lovely sheepskin coat. Not all pre sales services are the same. Because we use people totally independent to us who themselves have exemplary reputations they pull no punches when looking over a car at service time. We are the only car dealers they have come across who spend the necessary amount on car services and repairs - their words not ours. We give no limits to amounts available for servicing, no instructions to "turn a blind eye," and understand why jobs have to be done and what they cost. Sure if a car is 20 years old we are clearly not going to revert it to "as new" condition but we listen carefully to their recommendations and act on their advice.

997 doesn't require a service until 20k miles.

Agree that I don't see exactly why you'd want to spend another £2k. Get it inspected and spend £895 on the OPC warranty.

Don`t worry, no offense taken.

The 2,000 pounds is a standard gap we normally place across the cars. As pasted from our website (above), it isn`t just for a warranty - in fact the warranty element is only a small part of the cost, the bulk would be the cost of the service.

Different people have different levels of aversion to risk and they will also have different views on whether a car is due a service or not. I would advise "assume a new purchase is due a service" regardless of when it was last serviced, that way you know you`re starting with a clean sheet of paper. Other people may take the view a service isn`t due and so would not want the service carried out. It will of course vary from car to car. If we sell a car at the retail price it gets serviced regardless of when it was last done.

On a final point the guarantee we offer with our cars at the retail price differs from that offered as an aftermarket product (from Porsche etc), in that we are covering wear / end of life of components. The other warranties will only cover breakage that causes operational failure.

So it all comes down to the car and the person buying. There is also our "third way" whereby we have the car serviced at cost prior to collection.

Hope that helps.
