Seen a few posts over the last few months (years) asking questions about Dension GW500.

Just done my 2nd install (1st was in previous 996C4S), this one in 996TTS. Both cars had PCM2 with CD Changer.

Took about 2 hours and works like a dream. Very easy DIY.

If anyone has any questions I would be glad to try and answer them. If not, I'll shut up and go and listen to my Ipod in the car! (Waste of time really, can't hear it over the Miltek exhaust!!)

The PCM1 is supported, so I assume the install would be fairly similar.

If you have a CD Changer, then all you have to do is remove the optical bus from the CDC (plug connection) and plug it into the lead provided with the GW500. Apart from that, you need a permanent live, which I picked up from the CDC itself (crimped a couple of connectors on to the live and earth going to the CDC).

What I did with my second install is kept everything under the bonnet. This way you don't have any cables running through the bulkhead. You don't need to touch the Ipod once it is in the cradle and it keeps it out of sight.

Is this option available for the Becker High Speed head unit?

Does it use an optical bus to connect to other components (amp, CDC, etc)?

The Dension web site shows all the supported head units (www.dension.com)

The main interest in this unit was from people with optical systems without any form of analogue input (mp3 jack etc). As before the GW500 came out the only real option was to use an FM transmitter, which generally are cr*p!

The best thing with this is the fact that you control the Ipod from the headunit (select playlists, tracks etc, pause, play, forward etc)

Does this work on 997's as well? Does it replace the CD changer? Thanks, Dr S

As I understand it, the 997 still has the PCM2, so yes it should (check Dension site for confirmation)

On a 911 it replaces the CDC, as the PCM cannot access two CDC's. It appears to the head unit as a CDC.

I bought one and started to remove the panels in the front, but got scared and booked in an expert.... £80 sounds pretty good to me...
I have fitted the previous version in an X5 and that was easy. I think I'm just a coward.

£80 is not bad for the piece of mind and an hour's work for an expert.

I just don't like waiting to get things done!

Really is pretty easy to do though!
