In a word yes.

My old girl (mum that is) took delivery if a new one last month so I’ve spent quite a bit of time driving it of late.

My financial advice is if you are looking at either a new or used one is to haggle very hard as we got a shed load of loot of a new one. With the imminent arrival of the new Maz GT it’s not hard to see why, I had a good look at the Goodwood FOS and what a car.

None the less the Grandsport is still an very roomy old GT and is no slouch but compared to something like my Turbo it lags way behind in outright grunt. Provided you are happy to rev the life our of it in a way I remember only in a Civic Type R I’d put it pretty much on a par with my old 993 despite a fair old power advantage.

They are thirsty showing only about 14 about the town and around 22 on a modestly paced run.

Build seems very good indeed but smells just like a Fiat Panda but there again so did an Enzo I once had a ride in.

Hope this helps a little

Test drove one last week, and a very different beast to my early 4200. Very positive feel steering, an aural treat and much slicker gears.

Jesus, having read that I feel like crying!

I was thinking of swapping my 996 for either a GS or 355/360/456GT, but tales like that seriously put me off.

I may have to consider a quicker 911. but then for every Mazer/Fezza horror story, there seems to be a good story. I just don't fancy playing this kind of lottery with my own cash.

I think that story says more about Egham than Masser. He would have got an totally different emotion had he sent it to Lancasters at Colchester.
Dont worry, thankfully not all main dealers are like Egham. Personally I have never had a good experience with the place and refuse to use them at all, for anything, nada, zilch, bugger all, wouldn't even let them pump up my tyres.

That car was a definate lemon, maybe explains why the first owner got rid after 1000 miles. A one owner 20k car might have been a better bet. The posters in their criticism of Maserati forgot about RMS issues/carbon brakes/peeling alloys(as a comparison) etc in their fever to put the boot in.

I bought my Gransport new in March 06, and it has now done 15,000 very happy and faultless miles. There maybe faster cars and there may be flashier cars but there are very few that make you smile in the way a Maser does.

Go and try one out, but you wont get it in a few miles you need to do a good long drive in it to start to understand it.

Drove the GS at Millbrook twice last year courtesy of Dick Lovett and Graypaul, along with the QP range. Handled great on the alpine circuit, and flew around the bowl! Just sold my 4200, and longing for another!

VarioRob, any guidelines about how much can be got off the standard price of 69K for a new GS?

I'm looking to buy an 05 or 06 GS in the next 2-3 weeks, but if new 'uns are being heavily reduced in price, then I may be tempted ...

I have had a few dealings with GS's and i haven't heard any real problems with them. I have driven a few as well and i can say they are a fantatstic drive, especially with sports exhausts on them. As to a Porsche, nah boring as hell.
