I'm just in the process of renewing my insurance policy, but when I put my reg into any of the sites they insist my car is a 5 litre, not the baby 4 litre that I bought. Everything else is correct.

Could I have bought a 5 and not realised it or is this a documentation mistake??

Cheers

Doh! I knew I'd seen it somewhere! It is indeed a 400, but why do the insurance companies think it's a 500??

Is that Insurance "companies" or Insurance "company". I tried to get a quote from Direct Line and they insisted the Griff was made in 1965 not 1998, their database had no entry for the slightly more recent one. A few years ago I tried to insure a Peugeot 406 Exec and they had to get it entered on the database before being able to quote. Try getting a quote from one of the TVR specialist brokers ( Mannings for example) and see what they say. You can see what is on the official database by going to the check your MOT web site. You need the MOT number and a number off the V5 it then shows you so data about the car.

I had the same problem with mine. When I gave the reg no. to Direct Line their system came back with a 5L and mine is is a 400HC. As I arranged it on the phone it wasn't a problem but it can be a PITA when you try and buy online..

I just think it's a case of imperfect data on their systems.

With Direct line I had the same, they changed it to a 4.0ltr and said that the premium was the same for 4, 4.5 and 5 ltr chims.

Which, when one considers (I assume) that this data was purchased from the DVLA, raises a whole new question. wink

I assume so too so how they manage to get it so wrong I don't know. Strange how the systems never seem to think you've got a smaller/less powerful engine though......

Try http://www.hagertyinsurance.co.uk/. Not widely advertised and I was recommended to try them on PistonHeads while looking for a 400. No difference between them so I bought the bigger one. My 450 premium went down this year!

Thanks for all the responses. just bought my insurance from Privilige for £600, which did recognise it as 4L!

not bad for a 29 year old with it as my sole car!

That's about £700 less than I paid when I was 29!

£579 this year (31 now).

Incidentally I also have the problem where all the sites think my 400 is a 500.

2 yrs ncb
Garage
Fully Comp
Croydon
40 this year

And insurance is WELL in the £1000 mark.

Surely this can't all be due to low ncb.

Did you nominate a low milage for the year??

Glyn.
