'XKD' - As in DIESEL!
Seems that BMW have stuck an oil burner in their 6 Series Coupe. Article here: http://www.pistonheads.com/news/default.asp?storyI...
There was some talk that the reason Jag called the new normally aspirated 4.2 XK, just 'XK' not XK8 like its predecessor, was because they were going to stick a diesel engine in the car at some point and have the 'XKD' in their line up. Any word from those in the know.

I wonder if the TDV8 from Land Rover would fit under the bonnet of the new XK? Silly question, of course it won't!
Keep saving those pennies, I am!

Sorry, a couple of guys here appear to be in the know have said a few times that the TDV8 is too big to go between the front suspension towers of any of the Jaguar models.Keep saving those pennies, I am!

Diesel and a jag, it has a ring to it like pensioners and zimmer frames
Actually old people do not drive Jags. They can't
When they get old Jag drivers are forced to sell their beloved cars and buy BMWs or something else which is not so low to the ground. As they age they find that they can't get into Jaguars any longer and their knees certainly won't get them out anymore.

I can confirm from official people that it does not fit in the XJ but it should be ok with the XF.For the XK, PLEASE DON'T!!!

Sounds interesting...............Also a revised 2.7 is on its way (they are talking about 3 liters and about 250 hp!!!!
Why don't Jag roll out the R-D6? It had the fantastic diesel that the production cars are using.
I hated it when it was first shown, but, it's grown on me now. It's a design that will appeal to a younger crowd. Make it a hardcore performer - for good measure, offer it with the supercharged V8 too.
Let's be honest, Jaguar has to take such steps if they want to survive. Right now, the future is very uncertain for them. Outside Great Britain, Merc and BMW have almost wiped them out. Now Audi has joined the fray too.

Jaguar and diesel aren't new, in 1960 Jaguar bought Daimler and in the Daimler range launched that year was the stretched limousine known to themasses as the 'Daimler Fleetline 78 seater', and a large Gardner diesel engine powered it at the back!

In a car mag today ref: to XKD. Seems to confirm 2009, pending how the market takes to the BMW 6 series Diesel.
Also notes that sales of Jaguar in USA have dropped 25% this year, mainly coming from no S-Type sales (down 43% - 2000 units, no surprise seeing as it is a run out model) XJ not doing well either. However, sales in USA of XK up nearly 18%. With the XF next year I can see a revesal of the decline and hopefully the decesion not to sell Jag by Ford, however 19th July is deadline for offers I hear.
XF photographed on 'the ring' with an alleged 500BHP V8. Sweet. 3.0ltr diesel also confirmed-ish. (Not by Jag.)

Who cares about BMW!!!!
Jag don't care about BMW, but they care about the money customers have, wanting a diesel coupe.I was anti-oil burners, but why not? If it sells make it. Jag will definitely make it handle well.
G
I really do not understand and that has nothing to do with Jaguar.
Also Porsche never made the diesel available on its 911 and it is still the best selling. I would say that there should be other things they can do to sell it even better (and sales of the XK are veeery good)
PS: I was also antidiesel and did not like too much automatic gearbox but then I tested the S-Type 2.7 and I bought it !!!!!)
