How come manuals are faster than tips on all Porsches Bar the Turbo. Even the new Turbo cab is 0.60 in 4 secs for manual and 0.60 in 3.7 for tip?

Has been answered several times on here. The 997TT tip is faster than manual as it allows to build torque in the drive train befor launch. It's ghastly though if you are looking for a spirited drive

Agreed. "Diesel Merc" is the phrase that springs to mind.

I pledge "not guilty": I have driven tips more than once, and every time it has left a lasting impression. Last week it was a 997TT tip at Paul Ricard and I thought it was a waste of an otherwise decent car...

Isn't the new 997 tip a twin clutch version therefore changing cogs more quickly than a human being? I thought so but may be mistaken. Also are the other tips still 5 speed or are the new 997s six speed - 5 ratios would obviously make the difference on the non-turbo models

No - there isn't a 'DSG' / twin clutch available yet for 997. Still the old Merc derived torque limiter auto box. It has more programs than you could imagine, and is quite intuative in sport mode - but it's still an auto!

its only though most recent 997TT tip that is quoted faster to 60 though, 996TT was slower as are all the others. Assume the 997TT is only quicker for the reason mentioned so the menaingful mid-range the manual would be quicker?

Driven a 996TT in tip form and it was awful IMO, totally ruined a great car. Would not care if the 997TT was a few tenths quicker to 60 either, I would always go manual.
