BMW 330 CI Sport Tyres

Hi, new to this forum just purchased a 52 plate 330CI sport with all the toys the car has a set of Kumho tyres on the rear and bridgestone potenza RE040 on the front, the rear tyres grip in the wet is awfull nearly binned it on my first day or ownership
What would you recommend to fit as I want to replace these asap

My Z4 has Bridgestone Potenza RE050A Runflats, which are fairly grippy but provide awful ride (by virtue of being runflats) and are pretty much the most expensive on the market.

So I'd avoid runflats (unless you're insane) but Potenza's in general might be good. Also Michelin Pilot Sports are pretty good in my experience

Michelin Pilot Sports are grippier than the RE040s but they cost more and last about half as long. I use the RE040s and have had no problems with them.

The Potenza's do last well. I've had my RE050A Runflats on for over a year and they've barely worn (apart from a couple of punctures!). But then my brother got 35,000 miles out of the original set of Pilot Sport 1's on his Audi TT, so they're hardly made out of chocolate.

I originally used Pirelli's on my old Fiat (not P Zero's mind), and they wore out really quickly, definately inferior to the Nankang's which replaced them.

Mine has pilot sports, which I believe were what the car came with when new.

here's a spanner in the works Shaun, Falken FK452.

I went onto these from 050 runflats on my Z4 and WOW !!You want grip. There have been a few guys on www.bmwland.co.uk who have gone onto then too, one of which runs an E46 M3 and does regular trips to the ring, he rates them better than Pilot Sports and any other OEM BMW tyre, indeed as I do, they are awesome, just get over the 'Badge' and you will discover they are a well kept secret..

Never heard of them! But always open to ideas, especially when they come so highly praised ..... have you had MPS2s previously? Having put 4 of the latter on my 330 sport not many miles ago I won't be trying out alternatives any time soon, am curious though!

I've always thought the Michelins are quite hard: good for long life but not the best grip ... is grip always the holy grail though? having "too much grip" might mean that to get access to oversteer fun you have to get up to lunatic speeds...

Goodyear F1 GS-D3's. Use them on my 540i and have found them equal in dry grip to other premium brands, a bit better in the wet and with much less road noise. I've had some sort of terrible Dunlop OE, Conti CS2 and Mich PS on the car at various times. The Conti CS2 were really very good except in the road noise stakes.

Loads of guys on http://forum.bmw5.co.uk/ rate F1's as the best. I just managed a pair of 235/45/17 fronts for £188 fully fitted so they aren't particularly expensive.

I'll be putting them on whatever I buy next!

Well, I previously had a 330D Sport, 2004 model. In my ownership of that car I had PS2s, 040 bridgestones and finally the FK452's, that car came alive on those tyres, Oversteer..??? think this answers that one.



I went onto these tyres having had them raved about and all I can say is they certainly live upto the hype, I do a couple of track days each year, indeed one coming up next monday and they make certain other 'Branded' tyre feel very average when my previous opinion of them was far higher, it's all about taking the step out of your comfort zone with what you think is the best, this was my finding anyway and with cost advantage too I for sure will not go back to any other 'Branded' tyre for the forseeable future, check prices at the following site;
