So there I am, with a trailer full of bits I'd driven all day to collect. All from a burnt out cerbera.

Engine
gearbox
exhaust system front to rear
diff
starter
oil/water/pas pump, pipes etc
clutch bellhousing.

All of which was burn't by the fire then spent three months rusting in a insurance warehouse of some sort.

Imagine her face as I was standing next to the trailer looking pleased with myself and my wife comes up to see why.

Imagine her face as she peered into the trailer, and asked me how much I'd spent on stuff she didn't really want anywhere near her house, all the while trying not to hurt my feelings. When I told her, I could see her choking back the tears.

I tell ya, its days like these that I like to remember. She had absolutely no idea why I had to snog her to the ground.

I have a t-shirt with a 911 on it and the slogan "Big Wallet, Small Cock". I've always fancied one with a TVR on it saying "Big Wallet, Big Balls".

It's not always due to the hairy arsed nature of the cars, and stories like yours do nothing to change my mind... and without seeing them I can tell you that I admire your balls !!

Strange, do you know my wife? You and her sound uncannily similar. smile

I thought I'd start by finding out how much damage the storage and fire have done to the bits. And along the way find the answer to every question you just can't get an answer to on a forum.

I've done this in my old Capri days. We picked up one which was an MOT failure on the saturday morning. My wife said it had to be off the driveway by Monday.

We spent Saturday stripping it completely to a bodyshell, then had a great hour cutting it into 6 parts, which got taken down the tip and put into the metal bin.

The look on the staff there was priceless.

Oh sorry, not really sure.

I kind of wanted it just to take apart, and to try and future proof my car against ever having to go Chevy.

However having noticed that the engine, gearbox and diff still rotate, and that the engine aparently only has fifteen thousand miles on it.

I would love to get it back as a working engine, if that were possible. But where would you go to source plastic cam chain tensioners and oil seals and the like.

TVR power for some bits I'd have said, and BSL brammer / Premeier bearings etc for seals and timing chains etc

I don't have an ebay account, so when I heard about them on here, I had a look and just emailed him to offer him cash for the whole lot.

I think he liked the idea of a single transaction.

When I went to pick it all up, he said that on ebay the engine had 45 watchers (whatever that means), and although he didn't think there had been much interest on ebay, once he took it off ebay, he was paradoxically flooded with emails.

Ebays a strange thing, everyone seems to wait to see what everyone else wants to do. I do kind of wonder if I paid him too much, or what the bits would really have fetched on ebay.

Strange cos the thread died a death here so I didn't think anyone was interested in it. I did wonder when he said about the 'watchers', how many PH's there would be amongst them. smile

Funnily I was looking at the exhaust last night and noticed that the lambda sensors were still attached. I don't know why that sticks in my mind. They just looked odd in a disconnected exhaust.

Aye, can understand why he went to get rid of it in one go, far easier.

45 watchers is good. It's the amount of people who have added it to a list of items they're keeping an aye on.

Probably a load of people on here waiting to snap up a bargain. laugh

I'd have done the same, if I had the cash and time... frownwink
