Motorists under fire

The ultimate speed camera trap

Six points in one go...
Six points in one go...
We’ve had this phone photo sent in from a PHer this morning. Apparently it was taken above the A27 bitterne road near Southampton.

This has to be the motoring equivalent of ‘Mig alley’. Be careful out there…

Can you ne penalised for the same offence twice then? Seeing as both cameras will be "policing" the same stretch of road.

bugger. on a road i use every day to work there've been fairly regular van patrols. now there are signs up saying "safety cameras are coming to this road", so i had hoped that this would put an end to the random-checks since there's static cams there but seemingly not frown

technically unless they could prove you slowed to the legal limit then sped up again between two "captures" then it's still one offence?

I always wondered what would happen if you sped down a road with several cameras. you would presumably receive a NIP from each one, but it's technically just one offence. If trafpol followed you for 5 miles speeding they wouldn't do you for multiple speeding offences would they?

They should let you at least fly a Sabre then.

I understand that Jim Davidson was caught on the M25 doing about 90 mph by several cameras. He went to court and claimed that rather than speeding separately past each camera he'd kept doing 90 the whole way, thus he received 3 points not about 18 !!!!

willing to be corrected on this but seems to be correct in principle at least

Could be an ANPR van - so you not only get done by the fixed camera for speeding, but end up with an NiP for no Tax too. Worse still, there might be plod waiting round the corner so if you've got no insurance nono too - they'll know straight away and take you car away on the spot.!

The only other reasonable explanation is that the Truvelo further up was out of order.

Then again, since when were the SCPs policies and claims reasonable?

I can confirm that courts have ruled that if you stayed above the speed limit between cameras that caught you then this is considered one offence.

Not sure this would still work if the cases brought against you were in different counties, as each unitary body would bring its own prosecution, even if you claimed you didn't slow down between Cambridgeshire and Essex for example!

Surely this just amplifies the argument that police resources are being wasted, I am not completely against speed controls in areas where they are beneficial, schools, heavily populated residential etc but isn't this just ridiculous?

As I understand the law. the mobile unit gathering evidence must be legally parked.
if you get an NIP and you can prove the vehicle was not parked legally it will get overturned.
Also for all that get caught fron the famous BRIDGE shot the vehicle must be within 10 metres of the carrageway being policed this is quite often not the case.

Fight Um and good luck!

I've wondered about this before but would be worried that they'd then stick a charge of dangerous driving on you instead ...

Stuff that, got to be worth a punt. 3 points for a hyperspeed run between Lands End and John 'O seems like a bargain to me.

Excepting trafpol of course. And there would be s "Speed" type element- Not being able to drop below the speed you tripped the first scamera.

Other than that, a supoib idea.... getmecoat

Surely if they say fixed cams work, then they are proving they don't by using a mobile one too?

Or they are simply doubling up and wasting public resources?

Either way it kinda proves that scamerati are complete imbeciles.

I got snapped by that camera van last July.

As you can see from the pic, it doesn't catch you near the cameras but about 1/2 a mile away.

I've seen this tactic applied near where I live. They park up near a camera to catch those speeding before they slow down for the static camera furious

This happens on Squires Gate, Blackpool - be warned

The reason for that one is they are cheating bastards. The fixed camera is well known so everyone slows down on the line, the van as the previous poster says get you much further back when people do not expect it. This is on a dual carrigeway with a steel fence between the carrigeway with a 30mph limit. It is the first "clear road" after the nightmare which is Southampton, so is not mig ally, more of a "cash converter carrigeway"

What if you didn't slow down between, say, Cambridgeshire and Lancashire?

I too know this road, but seeing them parked like that suggests to me that the Truvelo's dont work and are only meant as a deterent. I have seen the van further down the hill near the bus lane, so it catches people speeding up the hill from the lights at the bottom.

Does anyone know anybody thats been caught by either of these fixed camera's?
