Just getting my lunch and watched the security guards at Canary Wharf stop a brand new white 997 GT3 - swabbed his steering wheel then asked him to open his front bonnet - For F*ck Sake what is this world coming too - what kind of device could he fit in his front bonnet ? a fire cracker ?

He was in his late 50s with white hair !!!

Security guards as a rule do not earn good money, probably a case of envy, or maybe they were petrolheads and it would be the only chance they would ever get to have a poke around a very, very nice car.

Surely a security guard doesn't have the right to take swabs of inside a private individuals car? I'd have thought they could deny access to somewhere, but nothing else.

They do this ever so often, and the sniffer machine checks for phosphates etc...
Technically CW is private, so they can restrict access/check cars etc.

Fair comment, but it must get on your nerves if you have to endure it daily.

Oh it would be annoying definetly. Its just a shame that this is how we have to go about things these days because some animals think its great to blow up innocent people.

That`s sent a few city boys scurrying down to Tescos for a bottle of Mr Muscle and a big pot of Cillit Bang. They`ll be cleaning the inside of the car all weekend.

Make sure you wash your hands thoroughly after you`ve been to the bathroom wink

Only the police can carry out random drug testing of drivers - although you are right that they swab the steering wheel.

Used to work down in CW and used to get searched periodically. Just part of living in today's messed up world.

I get stopped every time I go through the wharf, once the Diablo had just been permagarded and the chemicals set off the alert. It was like Defcon 1

I once had a pint with someone who work for Canary Wharf.

He told me that the fat knackers on the gates might look like the cast of The Black and White Minstrel Show, but that hidden away within 10 seconds runare at least two dozen and I quote "fvcking square jawed SAS nutters with machine guns......."

One of the times I got stopped, I had been clay pigeon shooting and was covered in cordite residue from the cartidges.

I ended up out of the car with both hands on the roof before I could explain!

You have no idea.

It took less than 500g to bring down the aircraft at lockerbie.

Two bags of fertiliser/fuel slurry in the front with a small semtex initialiser and you've got a very potent bomb.

Load it with semtex only which is 2-3 times more powerful and you have something more powerful than the Omagh bomb which killed 29 and injured 220.

Being swabbed occasionally is a small price to pay if just once, anywhere, ever, it stops such an attack.

My and a mate got stopped in his 360, would rather they stop us, than think hes got a nice car why would he be carrying a bomb....

Does get ridiculous for the people at the beemer garage who when I meet one, ranted at the guards cause that was the 4th time today he had been stopped...
