Anyone know of mailorder suppliers of the wierd and wonderful fasteners such as the femail threaded fasteners bonded into the fibreglass, countersunk washers, large wiring loom grommets etc?

You mean Rivnuts.

Like these:

They are good bits of kit but you need a special tool to fit them. Dzus fasteners look like this, and there are a million different sizes.

The ones that have pulled out look like the Rivnuts. The only reason they failed was because they rusted. Is it possible to get stianless Rivnuts, if so where?

Hum looking at the fitting of them they should be squashed hence grip the grp. They shouldn't in theory pull out then.

Looks like I'm adding another tool to the toolkit.

Odd, try this: http://www.gprdirect.com and type 'rivets' into the search box.

I got a rivet-nut kit from Wurth.

I've had to replace a few fittings on my car and, where possible, I put a flat washer behind the panel and passed the rivet-nut through it before tightening it.

I also put a small dab of polyurethane sealer on the washer to "stick" it onto the back of the fiberglass panel to stop the whole lot turning.

It's not possible to do this in every situation but it worked well where I managed to do it.

Excellent - thanks guys. I know I have a couple of these which are turning on panels, so it'll be worth getting.

They are a brilliant tool to have.

You'll find more uses for them.

Just be careful using it or you'll break it.

They're not like pop-rivets where you squeeze the handles 'til it snaps.

Just tighten it until it holds and then unscrew the tool.

I broke one years ago and one of our staff broke another one a couple of weeks ago.

Expensive mistakes .....

Chaps, check this out: http://www.lasertools.co.uk/item.aspx?item=1035&am...

I found it my local tool store. It does normal rivets, Rivnuts upto M12 and Rivbolts. I think it's about £80. This has to be the one. What do you think.
