Folks,

new boy to PH's and to Griffs and help already required.

After a couple of years seeing everyone else have fun at Le Mans thought it about time I had a piece of the action and got myself a Griff (the day before we left for Le Mans). Car behaved impecably, 900 miles of smiles.

Anyway I need some new tyres for the front. I have read as many discussions as I can but still haven't really got the answers. I am looking to replace the Bridgestone SO2's currently on the front. I want to keep it as standard as possible with 225/50 R15's on (car has PAS). Ideally I would keep the ZR rating but I can't seem to find any tyres other than Dunlop SP9000's which don't get a particularly good review even on the sales sites. Other options seem to me to be Bridgestone SO3's or Pirelli PZero's both of which are only W rated. On the basis the car gets rated between 161 and 174mph I think a W rating will be fine. I know the Toyo's are also popular but aren't they only V rated ?

Can I get any feedback on these tyres or other suggestions ?

Cheers.

SP9000's are close to the Toyo's IMO, are Z rated and have the same tread wear as Toyo's so you can puit Toyo's omn the rear - got on one of the Griffs and around 6,000 miles with no issues.

How often do you plan on exceeding 149mph...... thats what V rating is good for, Go for the Toyos I'd say

Mkae sure you tell your insurance though as so they dont have a get out clause in the unfortunate event. Most are ok with it like 350matt said its not often you top 149 wink

I don't think the rating is just about top speed though, it must take account of accelerative and braking forces and lateral loading. I personally wouldn't downgrade tyres from manufacturer spec., even if insurers are ok with it.

On my old set of Estorils - Toyos rear and Dunlops front were great. If its a new car to you it might be worth investing in £100 or so and getting your geometry checked as well. This would make a big difference to the handling.

My handling also improved no end when I got Steve Heaths antiroll bar drop links fitted front and rear, had poly bushes all round and changed my dampers. At each change of item, the handling improved noticeably

cheers

Thanks for the above folks. Does anyone have experience of the Bridgestone's or Pirelli's ?

Bridgestone SO2's are still available for the rear, but I'm about to try out some Falken FK452's which are nearly half the price and they seem to like them on the Chimaera forum.

I asked similar questions last month and went for Toyo's on advice of PHers. No probs. Great prices at Camskill, delivered next day.
