Hi,

I love the look of the black alloy wheels for my porsche 911 996 c4s. Do I need to buy new alloys (in which case, where are the best ones avaialble online?) or shall i have my alloys sprayed black (in which case, matt or gloss?)

Thanks,

Justin

can't work out which ones look coolest!! The harder the better!!! Can they be sprayed silver again or would i need to replace alloy to get back to factory color?

Any ideas who does it?

Thanks
Justin

Just had the wheels done on my GT3 road car, black centres, silver outer rims so as not to blend the tyres into the wheel.

You can just paint the existing aloys & if you don`t like it then strip them back and re-paint them silver.

Henry

edited to add : went for a gloss finish as the matting agent tends to soften the paint a little and the gloss will the more resistant to cleaning / dust attack.

budget somewhere around £100 per wheel and they`ll need the wheels for a couple of days.

That looks very nice. Anyone got a pic of a silver GT2 with black wheels? Mine need to go in for some curb repairs soon, so I might take the opportunity to go black at the same time.

Copycat wink

H - What products did you use? I just went for Hammerite Smooth in rattle cans. The outers seem fine as I really had to rub them right dowm to bear metal, but I just lightly sanded the centres down & the paint does seem susceptable to chipping.

If you do it, please start a thread, I have considered this as well, but not sure how it will look.

Not quite. The lacquer is the clear coating on top of the paint.

Get them painted black by a good body shop. You won't be disappointed!

Hi, I was asking a similar question a while back (in fact, Henry replied to a question I asked about potential resale value by changing from stock!)

I went for it, with my Sport Classic II's....

They're not black (sorry), but classed as "black chrome" by Lepsons who refurbed them. Really chuffed with them, still look like new today and when compared to how they were in silver, an order of magnetude better, IMHO.

Got mine refubed in silver recently. Wish now I'd been bold enough and gone for black (gloss) with silver rims. Wheels on Henry's GT look great but just couldn't make my mind as to whether Turbo wheels on my common 996 C2 would have looked right in this colour combo !

Some pics of my black wheels. They are powdercoated and in Basalt Black metallic. Not the best of pics due to parking location.
