Chim running lumpy....especially at low speed...a bit on idle...and not noticeable at speed.

Checked in the dark for any stray sparks - nowt.

Plugs and leads?

A good time to switch to better leads...???

Give the stepper motor a good clean , but be careful putting it back they can be fragile , see if that sorts it .

Mine was doing this - I adjusted the airflow meter and throttle pot as specified here: http://www.v8engines.com/carbs-2.htm#setting-up - made a big difference. I also changed the stepper motor at the same time which helped the idle no end.

Gorvid,

I've done just about every electrical / sensor check there is to do on the back of the ECU recently, whilst chasing a snag on mine. I live near sunny (yeah right!) Plymouth, (don't know where you are in Devon), but I'd be happy to go through / help you do some tests, if you wanna PM me.

Are we convinced therefore that it ISN'T the plugs + leads...????

Ok chaps...

New stepper is fitted. With the tape stuff.....still a bit of a hissing frown not as bad as before.

Idle is OK - although "weaker than before", but it still goes stuttery under a very specific medium load it seems. At 30ish in 2nd or 3rd it might begin to lurch a little....gas it and it is a happy little Chim.

What the hell is going on...? frown

I'd get the system checked out with a thingy meter. In my position as armchair pundit I would suggest the throttle pot is up the duffer. If the problem is relating to a particulr load AND throttle position as you suggest...or that the hissing is causing enough of an air leak for you to get the mixture leaning off at that particular load.

Regards
Iain

Been experiencing similar problem with mine since buying in March (apart from the hissing that is). Been into a local 'indy' who tweaked airflow / cleaned connector between lambda sensor & ECU / adjusted throttle pot & mixture / re-set base idle / cleaned stepper / fitted new plugs.
All of this made very little difference, so assumed they were all a bit 'snatchy' at low speed (?)
Not enjoyable to drive around town at all I'm afraid.

V8 - sounds like worth a try. Would think the dealer would have sussed that though (?)

Mine was the same, turned out to be manifold gaskets, got them replaced and big improvement.
