Help needed - creaking noise from A4 convertible

Hi,

was wondering if anyone has had any similar problems? Have an A4 Convertible which has now only done 20,000 miles.

Since last summer the front wheels started making a knocking noise at very low speed and when I turn the steering wheel .... but is intermittent ie doesnt do it all the time, but seems to be more when it is over 20c outside!! Audi have informed me it is actually a "creak" but although have now had it in 4 times, dont know what it is! They have changed ball joints (?) on both sides, fiddled with break pads and next are maybe going to check my suspension links .... has anyone else ever heard of this and have any ideas as am now getting very annoyed and frustrated as am getting obsessed with the noise

How old is the car and which model is it?

I know there was an issue with the steering rack on the early models.

It's a 2005, 3.0 s-line, me's now thinking maybe I just bought the bad apple!! Ruddy annoying

There is a problem with the steering on the A4.

Audi have not admitted to it being a "fault" so no recall, however have released a "fix" to help dealers sort cars like yours.

On S-line with the wider tyres is where it's felt the most, and it has to do with the power steering rack, as the previous poster said.

There is a set of valves to be placed inside the pas rack, and with a full bleed through of the steering fluid system the noise should go away.

I do know that eventually it will come back again, but then a bleed through at each service should have you and your car happy again!

This link put a smile back on my face thanks drybeer, also showed the hubbie to prove I wasn't some neurotic female .... then I spoke to my local audi dealers!! They have NEVER heard of replacing the steering rack to solve this problem, but are going to get someone more "technical" to call me back and maybe then rebook car in .... to do what with they are not sure but creak is back today with avengance, air bag light now come on today and I dont seem to have any interior lights now either- grrrrrr.

Will let you know what they come up with......
