996 GT3 Mk2: OPC Warranty Renewal?
Discussion
Guys,
Had the GT3 for 12 months now so its time to renew EVERYTHING! This month its had rear tyres, an MOT, Insurance, Tracker, Service 2 shortly, front tyres in a month, probably front disks in 3 months and now I have come to the point of having to decide if I should renew my OPC Warranty. Car has done 21K, 14K added by me in the last 12 months, and it will probably get another 12K this year, with some track but mainly road use.
Interested to get peoples views on the warranty and if you think its money well spent, it is a Porsche UK warranty not an indipendent one, and its £895 to renew.
Thoughts?

I renewed twice with my Mk II GT3 and once with my current RS.
Had a of very minor job done under warranty (door lock) on the Mk II and that's it.
Still in the event of an engine or gearbox problem and for the general peace of mind, £895 is good value.
is the gearbox covered then?? (asked in another thread but no replies)Had a of very minor job done under warranty (door lock) on the Mk II and that's it.

Total no brainer.
£15 a week - it's a curry for goodness sake.
Check that it's covered for track use, and also that there aare no over revs on the ECU which they can use ot knock back a claim later.
I have never over revved the car and it was checked before I bought it from my OPC......so they told me.£15 a week - it's a curry for goodness sake.

how close to the warranty running out does the renewal come in does anybody remember? just mines done on 14th but not got anything from porsche yet?
Go and see your OPC sefvice manager and renew it there. They'll get the benefit of the commission and you'll make a friend for when problems come.
I sold a 2003 Mk II with just 11,000 miles about 18 months ago. I'd had to get a diff pack fitted (circa £1100 at my specialist) when it was only just 3 months past being 2 years (and therefore out of warranty). When sold, I had the car checked at the local OPC and made the customer sign a disclaimer saying he understood the implication of declining to take the warranty, which he had chosen to do despite my recommendation otherwise. However, he changed his mind the next day and took out the cover (his mate who worked in the Parts Dept at his local OPC put some pressure on him to do so).
He's been in touch since (he wants an RS now) and mentioned that the timing chain broke and how thankful he was of the warranty. He found out from his mate that the parts alone were in excess of £2500. I don't think he'd done more than 5,000 miles in it.

What do you mean by over revs? there is a limiter, and mine has hit that with road use once,is that a problem?
I think this is referring to over revving when coming down the 'box, i.e. if going from 4th to 3rd, an engine rev limiter is of no use whatsoever if the revs were too high in 4th to be going down. The engine will be mechanically driven past the "redline" by virtue of the roadspeed. Classic case of this being a mis-shift if wanting to go from, say, 6th to 4th but getting 2nd instead.G T 3 said:
Cos it mentions over stressing the engine in the warranty,"not subjected to undue stress",surely hitting the limiter going up the box should not affect the warranty?
As has been said, it is more for when someone hooks say 2nd instead of 4th going up, or coming down the box too early and 'buzzing' the engine past the limiter.Edited by housemaster on Saturday 30th June 19:05
