Will and I are off to Scotland in September
This isnt a maybe, its a DEFINATELY willbe!
We are hoping to meet up with Jeff in Orkney
It would be nice to meet up with some other beast (HSV or Monaro) owners while we are there
If you cant make it, just put your car on autopilot, and send it
I look forward to seeing you there

Hi Jeff
Some assistance on accomodation would be good, Will is keen on photography especially landscapes while I prefer to be near beaches, but from your pics, the island can accomodate both of us at the same time
Everyone, I thought might be interested in a trip to Orkney seems to have gone into hibernation, but we will be there during the first week in September
Unfortunately we wont be able to attend Knockhill, we will be in Glasgow on 01 / 02

Well we are both going to the Scottish Highlands again and this time our destination will be the Orkney Isle where we intend to spend a few days and meet up with Jeff (V6 JDT) who is an Orkney resident.
We will spend the weekend in Glasgow & then head north on the Monday with an over night stay in Inverness. On the Tuesday head north destined to catch the ferry to Orkney just after lunch on the Tuesday, ferry takes about 60-90 mins. We then intend to stay Tuesday & Wednesday night on Orkney catching the ferry back to the mainland on Thursday morning. Then the plan is to drive south to Fort William for an overnight stay. On Friday we then drive south for home with the possibility of an overnight stay on the Friday en route for home arriving back on the south coast very late Friday night or during Saturday.
Would be great if there are any other like minded people who want to explore the Highlands and take their Australian born machinery on tour too; however what car you take is not important as this will be a holiday and not a promotional tour for any car maker or franchise so anyone is welcome to join in the fun.
Booking accommodation in Glasgow, Inverness & Orkney is freely available on the web and so is the ferry operator (Scabster to Stronmess) & lots of links can be supplied if requested.
The date is set for the first week in September (kids back to school) and obviously won’t necessarily suit everyone but hopefully might be of interest to some.
Holiday plan
Mon 03/09 Leave Glasgow mid morning, arriving Inverness mid afternoon
Tues 04/09 Leave Inverness to catch ferry arriving in Orkney mid afternoon
Weds 05/09 Orkney
Thurs 06/09 Leave Orkney arriving back on mainland just after lunch
Fri 07/09 Explore the Highlands
The ferry for car & two adults return is £115 to £140
Petrol around £300 return from S Coast
Accommodation £50 to £75+ per night based on 2 people
Estimated cost without main meals & refreshments circa £600-700+

sure I can make it along to see you at some point on your trip north, don't know about a run to Orkney but I'll see how time allows. Sure bigwheel (Ron) will try make it along for a chat as well.
Get on up Bob. You know how good the roads are up North. Plus I must treat you and Deanne to dinner See if Ron can make it too.
BO55 VXR. Are you up for a trip north too Chris??
Caspy. Good chance to take that VXR8 a decent spin and get a few viewings in on the way up.

Not sure where you got that from! If you are going on the Scrabster to Stromness boat, they will fleece you for £140.16 for 2 adults and a car travelling return in September!
You would be much cheaper (£104 for 2 adults and car return) on the short ferry from Gills to St Margarets Hope They also have a cheaper off season fare, but not sure if that kicks in as early as September...
Its also shorter trip (just over 1 hour) than the Stromness boat, and runs up in the shelter of Scapa Flow - Handy for those of you without sealegs, who might find the open sea to the west of Orkney a bit lumpy for your liking in September! You'll also pass John o Groats on the way to the ferry, for the inevitable photoshoot!
