Just realised it's 30th June, so it's exactly one year today since I picked up my Porsche (my first). Everytime I get in it I still get the same buzz!
Covered 9k+ miles in the 12 months. Didn't think it would be that many but can't resist driving it, take it out for a drive just for the hell of it!
Enjoyed every minute of ownership (well perhaps not the 180 degree spin I managed a few weeks ago, which I posted about on here, but I've put that down to driver error) smile
Touch wood, hope this isn't tempting fate etc., although I didn't get a Porshe warranty, everything's been fine and all it's cost in maintenance, so far, has been cost of service, though 2 new back tyres will be needed in the not too distant.
Computer sez 26.7 mpg on average which was slightly better than I expected, or perhaps I'm not driving it properly smilesmile
Just can't imagine life without one now !!

I am almost at the first year of my first Porsche (996) as well and I am of exactly the same mind as you.

There are a number of reasons for me to look at getting rid of mine (I do too many miles, mpg, kids etc) but I cannot bring myself to do anything about it.

Nothing else I have driven comes close in any way shape or form and the bottom line is I have never owned a car that makes me feel so special, drives, handles, looks or sounds like the 911.

So glad I did it!!!!

I'm in my 24th year of Porsche ownership, over 250,000 miles (all weather, road, track) in 15 models (from 356>997).

Wonderful cars, never had a significant problem, good relationship with my OPC and Porsche, and always kept the best ones.

Some might complain, but my experience has been beer

26.7??? In a 997 C2S I only manage to get above 16mpg when maintaining a steady motorway cruising speed. If I'm up and down the gearbox on a twisty it's 13 to 15 mpg. Sure you haven't got it reading in kilometers per gallon ;-)

I easily get 22 - 24mpg in my 997C2S on motorways. Steady 85mph in sixth.

worked out my mpg this morning (first day back at work after a 2 week holiday)

London to Parma (Italy) and back with 1,000 miles in between (trips to Florence, Bologna and Sestre Levante)

1.2 to 1.5 leptons on the drive over and back, majority of roads in Italy were winding, mountain roads (so 2nd, 3rd and 4th gear hard acceleration) and it still returned 31.9 mpg

don't know how I managed that but the rear tyres are looking rather second hand

also, why is 98 RON so cheap on the continent and we are continually fleeced?

I'd say I get average 26 mpg. I'm pretty sure the last long trip showed that and that was up to Durham at rapid speeds on the A1 and town driving. I've never seen the mpg in the teens since I bought the car 4/06 and I don't drive sedately. I'm not sure what I'm doing right but I'm chuffed with what it returns per gallon.

Will probably be around Saturday afternnon, but not Sunday (son's birthday bash!).
If you're anywhere in my neck of the woods call in for a cuppa and we'll compare notes?

My 26.7 (now 26.6), includes quite a few long motorway trips, averaging between 70 - 80mph. Full tank lasts about 330+ miles, depending where I'm going so must be about right.
Bloody hell 13 - 15 mpg I'd have to sell mine smile

Mine spends most of its time on the motorway when I use it. In the week when I use it on the 52mile commute to work - in non sports mode it easy to get over 27mpg .. just so happy to cruise in 6th at about 83..(I mean 70 .. ahem!)

With the sports button on though, amd the exhausts howling it drops considerably though !! .... but the noise .. cloud9

330 Miles - I wish. If I fill mine to the top it sometimes gives a range of less than 170 miles. Rarely does it ever go over 200 miles.

In the interests of research I took a longish drive last weekend. On the way out, after the engine was warmed up I reset the fuel usage gauge and stuck to a regime of upshifting as quickly as possible 1,2,4,6 and staying to all relevant speed limits.

I managed 29.8 mpg for a few miles until I realised that I did not buy a Porsche to drive like that and I dropped down to second and depressed the loud pedal.

And then I was back to 16mpg or so.

So, do the folks getting really high mpg figures tend to cruise along motorways in sixth for most of their miles? I rarely use motorways and generally stick to A roads, just for fun.
