My central locking has developed a mind of its own!

96P old style door openings.

I was on a blast tonight when I slowed as was entering a town and heard click, click, click......etc. Thought there was somethig wrong and couldn't work it out until I realised it was the central locking unlocking and then locking again. It stopped, eventually.

When I got home and got out of the car it locked/unlocked as I opened the door and then locked/unlocked when I shut the door. It was all out of sync so couldn't lock my door.

She's locked away in the garage now but I had to stand there arming/disarming the alarm and opeing and closing the doors until everything got in sync so she's safely locked up.

Any ideas? What a pain the A#s!

Well I've had the car for 2 weeks now so I know it was only a matter of time before something went wrong but in the scheme of things this is minor.

That door opening knob inside in the middle has that central locking button on the top that lights up - is it turning itself on and off somehow - dodgy contact maybe?

Can't think of what it would be otherwise sorry ...

The central locking can get confused if the courtesy light switch in the door isn't beeing pressed fully in - there should be a rubber pad that pushes the plunger in - if that isn't there it will behave as you describe. On my old Griffith I made a temporary repair by rolling up some insulating tape and taping it to the door - it was still there 3 years later when I sold it.

The central locking light on the switch does flash on and off so will have a look at that tomorrow. Is it easy to remove to get at the connection?

I will also check the doors are closed as I had a friend in the car today and he seemed a bit shy about giving the door the right amount of push to close it so that may be it as well.

Will also check the courtesy light but I did check when I finally got her locked up for the night that the light went out.

Thanks for the ideas.

Take the door switch plungers out and give them a good clean, they get clogged up with road grime pretty easily. I had that on mine and it was screwing the alarm up, it wouldn't arm beacuse it thought a door was open!

I have the same sort of locking problem on a 95 Chimaera. I've checked and even removed the door pin switches completely to prove they are not at fault, but my central locking clicks on and off as I drive along. Other than the central locking relay under the dash, is there anything else I should check before trying to find those bolts that hold the dash top on?

Any advice appreciated.
