Funny story about scameras
Discussion
My dad told me this today,if anyone can clarify any details then please do.
The police officer was in his usual place with the gun, he heard a noise and set the gun. The noise got louder and louder, the gun was reading 400mph then it went off the scale! Over head an RAF tornado flew past, It seems the police had him on his radar. The funny thing was that the above plane was on a 'Live fire' exersise and noticed that a target was locked onto him, he was prepared to eliminate the target (terroist threat) but at the last minute was advised to ignore said radar.
Now this was told to me but I can see the scenario can anyone clear this up?

I prefer the one about two RAF pilots that were caught speeding in a porsche one night. Copper is parked at the side of the road in the pitch black and suddenly he gets a reading of 150mph+. He couldn't see anything so they set up a road block a few miles down the road and they stop this porcshe. The two RAF pilots had the lights on the porker switched off and were using night vision googles!
And yes i know its an old story but it still makes me laugh now

Yeah it did happen a while ago now...strange but true.
I know this is slightly off track...
I used to live in the peak district, in derbyshire where a lot of RAF and NATO aircraft used to practice there low level flying...
One day I was walking back from school and I had to go over a small hill that separated two valleys... on one side there was a gentle slope and on the other side was a cliff cause by quarrying lime stone, all of a sudden there was a wistleing sound folowed by a horrendus rawr... I looked up less and approx 15-20m above my head was an inverted A10 tank buster... I was completly stunned... It had come up the valley at low level and in order to go from one vally to the next it had done a barrel roll over the small hill that I was standing on, not quite what you exspect when your about 13 and just walking back from school...

My dad claims to have been the target of a simulated strafing run by two Harriers back in the early 80's. They decided that a white Lotus Esprit enthusiastically "pressing on" along a B-road made an interesting target.
He tells me he was praying they didn't press the wrong button or something.
Edit: And, yes, the urban myth about the police radar trap and the Tornado is an urban myth. See here

Had a similar thing happen to me in the Beacons when i was a kid; there was a white pole about 6ft 6in high with a red circle sign thing on top. Out of nowhere came a tornado jet, skimmed the top of the pole by about 5ft. I stood there going "cool", when i looked around about 15 of the 35 or so school kids i was with (on a school trip) were flat head first on the floor with fear!
Grew up near active military jets, they fascinate me!

My ex GF was flying hawks as a gift from me. The bloke she was with is one of the UKs top bird type blokes, and is allowed to fly them on military training grounds at particular times.
Anyway, he tells the following story. In his landy, bouncing alond the track, minding his own buisness.
Unknown to him, a flight of attack helicopters (Lynx or apaches I suppose) were using him as a training target. He was rather suprised when a fully armed chopper popped up from behind a bank 200m in front of him.
Cue waving and flashing of lights just in case.

Got woken up by a massive bang at about 7am on Christmas day 1983 on Carcass Island, Falklands. Family & I piled out of the farmhouse, to see the fast disappearing rear of a Tornado. About 3 minutes later, just as we are going back inside, from the opposite direction we see a Tornado travelling very fast straight towards us at about 25 feet - as he reaches the house, he goes straight up, with full afterburner on - several windows are broken. Very impressive
Turns out it was an old mate of my dads who used to be in the same squadron as him; tracked him down & decided to buzz us & give an early morning wakeup call
When he buzzed us initially, our first thoughts that hostilities had started up again
