Hello,

I'm considering a project using the speed 6 engine for a sprint / hillclimb car and would like to pick your brains about the engine.

Do you have any of the following info:
1) Weight & general dimensions (length, height width)?
2) Is this engine dry sumped in the std production car?
3) Can the MBE ECU be interrogated with Easimap software or is it a factory sealed system?
4) What gearboxes can be used on this engine - bellhousing bolt pattern compatible with what? Any info on ratio's?
5) Whats the diff ratio in the std car & is it a Ford sourced unit?

Any help much appreciated

1. No idea of exact dimensions, but just looking at it, seems LARGE for it's capacity. All alloy, so presumably not too heavy. Possibly info on the TVR site - they certainly quote the weight of the AJP8.

2. Yes, is dry sumped in all versions.

3. MBE can be interrogated, but is locked from modification.

4. Borg Warner T5, so presumably T56 might fit too.

5. BTR, not sure of the ratio. Optional hydratrak (speed sensitive lock up rather than torque sensitive).

Why would you use the Speed 6 over the 4.2 AJP8? The AJP is physically much smaller, probably lighter, much more common being older, and similar power. Parts are more available, and without being too controversial, is more reliable.

The 6 sounds beter in my opinion. Flat plane crank V8's tend to sound more like 4 cylinders to me + I guess the width of it will not be accommodated in a narrow engine bay.

Do you think the 6 is really so unreliable that it will not stand 30 seconds to 2.5 minutes of run time on a hillclimb or sprint? What's been the problems with these engines?

T5 & t56 are completly different beasties. They have different mounting bolt patterns and the 6 speed whilst being mega strong weighs in at nearly 9 stone. The T5 is a lightweight in comparison like the LT77.

Is this the T5 box that is fitted to Cosworth Sierra's?
