I went from a 4.0 chim to a 4.5 cerb, there is absolutely no way you can compare the two cars, they really are chalk and cheese. Handling, noise, power, accelleration, brakes - everything is an upgrade in my opinion. The only downside as already mentioned is the fact you can't take the roof off. But the crazy foot to the floor feeling is amazing and worth a hardtop anyway! I do think that had I have bought the cerb without having the chim id it would probably have killed me by now. I'm not saying the chim was a bad car, it wasnt and i loved ever minute of the 18months I had it.

I'm luckey and have bothsmile the chim is more of a fast cruiser and the cerb is a race car for the road. The cerb handles a bit better than the chim but the chim sounds a lot better. I can't tell you which is better I like both it depends what kind of mood i'm in. You need to drive both and see which one is for you.

It is a move I and many others have made so yes it is a natural progression, but then they really are not similar at all. Go drive a Cerb and see what you think, they are a lot more "banzai" than the Chim, far less relaxed in nature but oddly can still make a great GT car and plug the miles away with ease blatting through France etc.

It was like going from a fast car to a very fast motor bike in terms of performance but really they are nothing like each other, the Chim was great, the Cerb brilliant but cost more to run.

many thanks for replies, poses more questions than answers, love the chim at mo,"weather permitting",as u say i just have to test drive a cerb and see what it drives like, the chim just feels right as soon as u get in and fire her up, so would be hard to see her go.quite a dilemma!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.oh hum.once again........thanks.

I have had a 4.0 Chimaera which I loved then I got a s6 Cerb which was a bit of a nightmare. Then spent 8 months driving a BMW 5 series which was dull.

Just picked up a 4.5 Chimaera and I love it! My son loves it even more than me!

In summary: Chimaera.

Having spent a little more time with the Chimaera since buying it, I can say it is much more easy to live with and does not feel anywhere near as fragile or as concerning to drive. Far more relaxed in every way.

The Cerb is more responsive by far and I have to say is more of an event to take out but you feel that you have to concentrate the whole time and is therefore quite demanding.

Good luck with your choice.

I have driven both cars! a chim 500 is a quick car no mistake! But the cerbera would murder it in every way performance wise! just depends on what you are after from your TVR?

I had a modified late '94 5.0litre Chimaera in '97 which I sold and purchased a spanking new late '97 Cerbera 4.2. Initially I thought I'd made a big mistake but it was just that I didn't 'get' the Cerbera straight away. I was used to lots of low-down torquey grunt and an engine with a massive punch that didn't need to be revved more than 5k, something that I'd had in my 4.3 Griff' and the Chimaera. The Cerbera in contrast needed taking by the scruff of the neck and hammering! The more miles I put on it, the quicker and smoother it got although it was never going to win any refinement awards! That engine really is the nearest thing to an old school Formula 1 engine for the road. I love Rover V8s but the AJP8 is a truly unique engine and needs to be experienced.

One thing I will say is that I drove many Cerberas over the years and the difference between a good one and a bad one was a lot greater than the equiv' Rover engined cars, especially in the early days. I also thought the interior and the fit and finish in my Cerbera was superb - not a squeak or rattle to be found (although it might just have been the noise of the valve-gear drowning it out!).

AJP8 engined Griffith would do it for me, especially if it was face-lifted like the yellow Speed-Six show-car of '97!
