Anyone know if the sat nav on the Nokia N95 is any good using it's own software, or is it better to use a gps reciever and load latest tomtomt on the phone ?
Currently use tomtom 5 on a pda but about to recieve an N95 and would still like to use POI's etc like speed cameras, favourites etc so wqould be the best route to go ?

I have tomtom 6 installed on mine and use a bt gps receiver. Works fine in car when pluged in. I have downloaded all uk maps for nokia maps and use that for out and about use. As said it is slow to get a gps lock but rumour is that a-gps will be in next update which will get a quicker lock.
One thing to note, if you want turn by turn navigation with nokia, you need a subscription.

If I pay the subscripstion can the maps get downloaded onto the micro sd card ? and thus negate any network costs in using the navigator ?
You can download the maps to the sd card with or without the extra subs. Use the nokia map loader here http://www.nokia.com/A4353385 , it takes a while but once they are there you go into the sat nav settings on teh phone and turn off network usage so it will never connect. The only thing the extra subscription gives you is the turn by turn directions and the voice. Without the subs you still get a route marked out on the map with your position shown. To be honest I dont think the Nokia application is that bad, while not as sensitive as my TT 910 or Garmin 60 series which use Sirf 3 chipset its a lot better than the previous generation of gps recievers that Ive owned. The big probelem is the battery life, if Nokia brought out a powered car mount Id happily leave the Tomtom at home.
