Sold my 928 and 996 targa and picked up a MY2001 996TT. Random thoughts from the experience:

928's are a hell of a lot of car for the money can't believe it went for so little and was really painful watching that fantastic shape leaving my drive in someones elses hands. When you see them on the road nothing is better looking.

What a pain it is selling privately and talking to so many potential buyers who had no idea about the car but were all assured me they were really keen and wanted to put down a deposit, but thanks to a very welcome knowledgable few who also taught me about the car and made the experience far more enjoyable and the odd one or two who knew very little but were just so full of enthusiasm that is was fun meeting them anyway.

Good traders are worth their weight in gold, especially Northways who offered a sensible trade in on the Targa, asked a reasonable price for the TT, serviced and put a new clutch in before I picked it up, made the transaction very easy and seamless and also got up early on Saturday so I could do the deal and still make my kids sports day.

The TT is fast and smooth as you like but on first driving not as exciting as the C2 Targa, it simply handles speed so much better.

How nice my drive now looks with the TT and silver 965 T2 sitting alongside each other and a big space where the 928 was.

My Missus is much happier having just the two Porkers on the drive (there were once 5) so her friends have somewhere to park when they come for coffee (at least I think she is as she isnt talking to me after "my performance" at the sports day !!) Some things never change.

Can I ask a quick question about the TT. In 2002 or so the standard 996 had a facelift (new engine etc) which made it slightly quicker and more reliable (so I beleive).

Did the TT hav the same thing happen? If so does it make much difference?

I guess what I am asking is that a 2000 - 2001 TT seems to be in my price range where as a 2003 isnt!!

Cheers!

As I understand it there were some changes for the TT from MY 2002 onwards. Two obvious ones are the addition of a glove compartment and an upgrade of the PCM, I think there is a small hike in power too but nothing significant. Other than that I believe they are pretty similar, in any case I could only afford the pre facelift so thats what I have.

How much did the 928 sell for in the end David? I didn't ever hear from you again - at the time you had someone else interested at £7500 IIRC

There are suggestions on renn that the engine casing was 'improved' or changed from '02 on , though I've not heard similar comment here.

I'll try but I have difficulty saying it, it still upsets me .......................................................................................SIX.........................Thousand.......................pounds.......There you go, its not getting any easier !

I had loads of interest, loads of people wanting to see it and three offers that the buyer didnt follow through on, then ran out of time and wanted to do the deal on the TT.

Apologies if I didnt get back to you Rubystone I thought it had sold on three occasions and turned away a few people on that basis. It was then difficult to remember who had been interested.
