DVLA trial of vehicle tagging equipment.
Discussion
The DVLA are conducting trials of an electronic tagging system for vehicles.
All vehicles will be compulsorily fitted with a chip. This will be read by radio equipment as vehicles drive past.
They claim this is to deal with false plates on cars and the lack of plates on the front of bikes.
They don’t say so, but this obviously has potential to be utilised as a ‘pay per mile’ road charging tax collection system.
It could also be utilised as a nationwide average speed scamera zone.
Trial report can be read here.
