Hi folks, sorry for silly question, but without owners manual and without being sure the car is fully working as it should....

Heating/Cooling controls in the cockpit -

correct me if I'm wrong -

top metal fan knob with red led - pushing = heating fan on/off, twisting = fan speed
lower metal fan knob with blue led - pushing = aircon on, and fan on, twisting = fan speed

what are the two buttons inbetween these fan switches? I cant get the light to come on on the bottom of these two black buttons, and the top one when pressed turns its led on, and cant be turned off, although would appear to go off of its own accord after about 5 mins - what are they?!

the lower of my fan switches, for what appears to be aircon, doesn't have much power in its fan, it only blows ever so slightly, whereas the heating fan blows at a more reasonable force, is this normal? also am I wrong or does the car really allow you to turn heating on full and aircon on full at the same time?

confused! :P

The top one is for the heated rear screen. It turns itself of as you say.

The bottom one is for the AC if your car has it. Mine hasn't but the button is still there and the blue indicator led.

The AC button cools the air in the 'cold box'. You can have full heat and full cold on at the same time. According to the manual that is to control the temp!

Top button = rear heated window - stays on for duration pre-determined by a timer
Bottom button = AirCon

As for the 2 heater controls, use both to 'mix' to the correct temperature.

so maximum cold should be top fan turned off and down to minimum, bottom fan turned on and up to maximum (anyone else not get much puff out of this bottom fan?) and lower of the two buttons inbetween turned on (my lower button doesnt light up any leds, although i definitely have aircon, found the valves in engine bay)

Something like that.

You can tell if you've got aircon, cos there'll be a bloody great pump mounted on the front of the engine!

Mine is like C3BER described, but it was hot or hotter before I whipped the cats out.

BTW - If you haven't got aircon, does the blue light still come on?

I don't trust the owners manual, especially as those little flashing orange lights are described as "indiactors" instead of indicators. It's not just a typo, this is consistantly used term right the way through whenever they are mentioned.

SimonKD, you're an absolute star!! thank you _so_ much!

one other minor thing, none of the dash illuminations seem that bright in my car, only just realised that the aircon blue light actually _is_ coming on when i press the button, the light is that faint! do all cerbs suffer from poor bulb illumination? also the instrument cluster white lighting doesnt seem a very even spread across the dials at all, very one sided, maybe i have a little bulb gone.

It wasn't till I hit the aircon button by mistake one night tht I realised that the blue light does actually work... so yes, all cerbs have poor blue luminance.

As for the instrument panel, it is dim. It annoyed me to start with but I have grown to live with it. I considered cracking it apart and putting in some better bulbs at one point but that seems to have fallen by the wayside.... tumbleweed

Hi Alan

Here are two past threads which you should find very useful on the subject of dash illumination.

AlVal - an obvious one, but have you maximised the flow through the AC air vents by twisting the knob to open them fully?

sure, do you find the cold blows as forcefully as the hot in yours?
