1970 911T LHD to RHD conversion
Discussion
I've been spotting some great bargains on the continent for early, honest Pork such as a 1970 911T. Whilst I am aware of potential pitfalls in buying early and cheap, I am very tempted to go forth and accumulate as a longterm project. I've never atained comfort driving LHD though and I wondered if any of you know if a RHD conversion is possible, what the costs of this would be and views on whether I would be ruining the integrity of a classic.
Can be done but not that straight forward. 996's where the first 911 to have a universal bulkhead made for left or right hand drive.
All previous 911's the bulkhead was specific, so to do the job properly requires quite a lot of surgery. I have seen some apalling conversions over the years. My advice would honestly be to leave her left hand drive.

If you must have rhd then it's far better to find the ideal rhd car. It is costly to convert an early car, and it will be perceived as 'non-original' and and have the stigma of, perhaps, being a botch job.
There's a Gulf Orange 2.7RS that was converted from lhd to rhd that is frequently on the market, and it has been substantially devalued by the conversion.
I find the driving position in the earlier 911s to be better in lhd than rhd. Remember they were designed and built to be lhd, there is less driver offset and the gearboxes (particularly the 915) are more intuitive from the lh seat.
