Dirt, erorr message. Clean disk

I bought colin mcrae dirt yesterday. The disk is flawless, but an erorr message keeps popping up, telling me to clean the disk. Its very annoying and means i have to restart the game. Whats happening and how do i fix it?

Return the game as a faulty disk, get another.
If this doesn't work, try cleaning the optics of the drive.

Thanks. Im going to try swapping the disk. I hope the hard drive is not defective. My xbox is about 4 months old.
