I had a few minutes to spare yesterday so seeing as I was passing Dock Gate 20 in Southampton I thought I`d pop in and have a look. I`ve always wondered what a Buell lightening would be like so I spoke to a salesman and he said to book a test ride.

I`ve read reviews, and they vary wildly, I know htat they dont produce huge ammounts of power, but I`ve had the sportsbike (GSXR750) and was thinking about getting something a wee bit different, whats the general opinion on these then?

You'll see.......biglaugh

Gearbox can be a bit agricultural at times, but otherwise they are an absolute hoot........

HD dealers are pretty good with test rides, so have it for as long as you can, as many find that they don't get on with a Buell at first aquiantance, so make sure you have a good couple of hours on it.

Forgot to mention, that one of the reasons, some find them not right at first is that the XB12's are made in two versions, a short one for the more vertically challenged rider, and a normal one...wink

Make sure you find out beforehand which one it is and if it's the opposite of what you are, ask to see if you can have a demo on the other to see which fits better.

I rode a XB12R for the afternoon, as said before they are great fun and sound nice. The handling is weird they seem hard to start quite hard to start turning but i was really nervous of it. The way the engine picks up from idle is mental.
