Hey guys

Looking to put a motorbike engine in a 7 replica because of weight and well lets face it THE NOIZE!!!! Im just looking for some information from anyone who has done this.

Where do I obtain a reverse box from and can someone confirm my understanding of one. From what iv been told it is a small gearbox which bolts onto the sequential unit on the fire blade engine and when engaged with a separate leaver I get reverse – correct?

How much are one of these little gadgets going to cost as I haven’t set my engine budget yet

Are there certain boxes for certain engines or are they universal

There are several manufacturers, but try Quaife for a start.

You might also try asking on the Yahoo Bike Engined Cars discussion group as to which manufacturers have a reputation for reliability as, certainly in the early days, you used to hear of a lot of problems relating to these reversing boxes.

You need to have a mount plate welded to the chassis where the reverse box sits plus have your propshaft modified. The quaife box is pretty reliable as long as you check the oil level regularly. It's a good idea to use their breather system too.
