After reading about the VXR500 some months back I've honestly struggled to get the car out of my head, and the thought of getting either a VXR or a 500 has been gnawing away for some months now. Knowing that there are many knowledgeable people on this forum, including people from Greens, I guess my question is whether I'd be better off picking up a VXR and modifying it as and when to the level of the 500 (or inevitably further) or whether to try and find a 500 from day one.

Obviously one means a smaller initial outlay but is there anything obvious that I'm missing about the differences?
Is it even realistic to expect to find a nearly new VXR500 at this point? Are there any owners who bought a 500 here?

Lots of simple questions but I couldn't find much discussion about it on the forum...

I heard that there were only 15 'factory' VXR500s made, awesome car, going to be a collectors piece in years to come.

The other way to get one is build it your self, take the modding route, almost all Monaros are modded, they are so tuneable, but beware it's addictive

Greens/wortec/Monkfish will build you a vxr500 'clone' no problem on any vxr base. Same spec etc.. So no need to hesitate if that's what you want.

The VXR500's weren't anything special really. The only addition they had over a standard VXR is the Harrop LS112 supercharger.

They may hold their value more being more of a rarity but I wouldn't have thought so.

You might just as well get a VXR and then add on the mods that you want, it will be easier to find the VXR you want than a VXR500 as there are more of them.

Of course going the non-VXR500 route means that you can chose which supercharger you want - see thread on superchargers. I believe Harrop have a newer version which is more efficient that the one installed and there are other options too.

Whichever way you go I doubt you will be disappointed!
